Awareness Vigil Planned For Shelva Conrad The family of Shelva Conrad Rafte invites friends and family to the “Friends Around the Light” awareness vigil on Saturday, May 28 at 6:00 p.m., in Nicholson. This is the exact date Shelva, then 44, disappeared, 5 years ago, after her daughter’s college graduation party that was held at Joanne and Randy Decker’s home outside of Nicholson on State Route 92. Joanne Decker is Shelva’s sister and her daughter’s Godmother. Shelva’s family is rekindling the search for their beloved sister with this awareness vigil at the location that the family last saw her. The family and friends will caravan to the River Front Park in Pittston to have a second vigil at 8:00 p.m. along the river and near Shelva’s apartment. There will be a bus available for anyone who would like to travel from Nicholson to Pittston and back. The bus is free, but donations will be gladly accepted at the event to help further the quest for the search for Shelva. Shelva had cooked and helped plan the graduation party. She left the Decker residence at about 10:30 p.m. with a friend to go to Pittston where they both lived. He stated that they went to his house in Pittston, had an argument and she left to walk to her apartment approximately 2 miles away at 1:00 a.m. The next day when the family found out that she was missing, they were in shock. Her car was at her apartment, television was on, a check was in her mailbox, for a large amount, and all her personal items were there, just as she had left them before coming to the party. She was last seen wearing denim capri’s, baby blue T-shirt, 2 gold necklaces, a gold bracelet and earrings. Shelva is 5’3”, blonde hi-lighted, hazel eyes and about 115 pounds. Pittston Police Department has been the jurisdiction law force investigating her disappearance, along with the Luzerne County D.A.’s office and the State Police at the Wyoming barracks. They consider the case to be unsolved. The family hopes that media coverage of the event will, perhaps, cause someone to remember something and bring new information concerning the disappearance. Even if they think the information is not important, the police might think otherwise. Please call Pittston Police at 570-654-2425. There is a reward for a substantial amount for any information about the night of her disappearance. Call Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers anonymously at 800-4pa-tips, or go their website. The family has been working with Project Angel Eyes, a local organization that helps locate missing persons, as well as, Project Jason and many other internet sites for missing adults. Shelva’s family can not believe that she has not called anyone in five years. They are a very close family and this is out of the ordinary. Shirley Master’s (Shelva’s sister) stated “We have allowed the police to do their job,” but after 5 years the family is desperate to have closure. Please join us at the awareness vigils and show support for the family.
