Life Line Screening Coming To N. Milford Residents living in and around the New Milford, Pennsylvania community can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke or bone fracture. The New Milford United Methodist Church will host Life Line Screening on April 6. The site is located at 69 Pratt Street in New Milford. Four key points every person needs to know: stroke is the third leading cause of death and a leading cause of permanent disability; 80% of stroke victims had no apparent warning signs prior to their stroke; preventive ultrasound screenings can help you avoid a stroke; screenings are fast, noninvasive, painless, affordable and convenient. Screenings identify potential cardiovascular conditions such as blocked arteries and irregular heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysms, and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which is a strong predictor of heart disease. A bone density screening to assess osteoporosis risk is also offered and is appropriate for both men and women. All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. For more information regarding the screenings or to schedule an appointment, call 1-877-237-1287 or visit www.lifelinescreening.com. Pre-registration is required.

Powers - Wood Exhibit Coming To Montrose The demise of family farms under the bulldozer and the resurrection of old tractor and machine parts into fun, functional objects for the home and garden are the themes explored in the exhibit “R. Bryce Powers & Curt Wood,” to be on display at Butternut Gallery & Second Story Books from April 9 through May 14. R. Bryce Powers, a native of Kingsley and graduate of Keystone College, contrasts images of farm machines with city architecture in his photographic silk screen prints that comment on the gradual loss of agricultural land to human habitation. Curt Wood, the Endicott, NY metal artist, welds together interestingly shaped machine parts to create whimsical, functional, artful objects. Mr. Powers’ work won the Best In Show award at the 2010 juried Focus exhibit at Butternut Gallery & Second Story Books; Mr. Wood’s metal work has been exhibited twice previously in the gallery. Everyone is welcome at the R. Bryce Powers & Curt Wood Opening Reception on Saturday, April 9 from 6-8 p.m. in the gallery at 204 Church Street in Montrose. Enjoy refreshments and spend some time with this fun and thought-provoking art.
