Obituaries

MERCEDES (COLE) HARMISON

Mercedes (Cole) Harmison, age 82, passed away January 1, 2011.

She graduated from Laurel Hill School and went on to Marywood College, becoming a teacher.

She married Jack Harmison and they went to Saint Cloud, Florida; together they raised a family of girls and boys. She taught school there for some time.

She had cancer of the pancreas for some time, and the Lord took her home.

She lived at 811 Georgia Ave., Saint Cloud, FL 34769.

Besides her children, surviving is a first cousin in Susquehanna, PA, Doris Cole Folk.

TOMMY STOCKHOLM

Tommy Lee Stockholm, 56, of Fort Smith, died Thursday, December 23, 2010 in a local hospital. He was an employee of Southern Steel and Wire, a longtime resident of this area, and he was always quick with a joke. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served as a torpedo man’s mate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Lorraine Button Stockholm.

A Memorial Service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren.

He is survived by one sister, Marcella Stockholm of Van Buren; four nieces; one nephew; nineteen great nieces and nephews; and a very good friend, Patricia Andreas of Van Buren.

BRUCE H. VAN COTT

Bruce H. Van Cott, 86, of New Milford, PA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 6, 2011. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Doris.

Also surviving are their children, Marvin and Carlene Van Cott, Bonnie Van Cott, and William Van Cott; grandchildren, Steven and Alisa Van Cott, Karen and Wayne Morgan, Stacey and Andrew Park, Alicia and Greg Garnett, Jordan Van Cott, and Philip Van Cott; great grandchildren, Querida, Taylor, and Elijah; one sister, Marjorie Hathaway; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bruce was a dedicated family man, a life long farmer, and a member of the Kingsley Community Church.

A funeral service was held on January 10, 2011, at the Kingsley Community Church. Spring interment will take place in New Milford Cemetery.

LILLIAN M. JURISTA

Lillian M. Jurista of Jurista Drive, Tunkhannock, died Saturday, January 1, 2011 in Mercy Tyler Hospital in Tunkhannock after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in South Gibson, PA on May 29, 1929, the daughter of the late Ernest and Lillian Sweet Wilbur.

Lillian was a 1947 graduate of Harford High School, member of the Church of The Nativity B.V.M. in Tunkhannock and its Alter and Rosary Society. For over 50 years she sold Stanley Home Products. She was a member of the American Legion Post 457 Ladies Auxiliary. Lillian was an avid baker and enjoyed crocheting afghans. Through the years, Lillian crocheted over 350 afghans that she presented to the newborn nursery at Barnes Kasson Hospital to be taken home with the parents and the newborn babies. She was an avid Bingo Player and enjoyed trips to casinos with her husband and best friends, Peg and Norm Ball of Tunkhannock. She actively volunteered in making pierogies with members of Nativity and BVM church. She was a loving Mother and Grandmother who looked forward to baking apple pies in the fall with her daughter, granddaughter, and great-grandchildren at the Keiser home.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Edward Goldsmith; brother Leroy Wilbur; sisters Loretta Bennett, Louella Bennett, Edna Bennett and Grade Heisler.

Surviving is her husband of 18 years George Jurista; sons and daughter-in-laws, Michael and Janis Goldsmith, Jenningsville, Patrick and Nancy Goldsmith, Sherburne, NY, Edward and Rhonda Goldsmith, Montrose; step-sons, George and Francine Jurista, Jr. of Tunkhannock, Gary Jurista of Tunkhannock; daughters and son-in-laws Linda and Charles Buffington of Susquehanna, Anne Marie and Tom Homza of Simpson, Sharon and Joseph Weidow of Hop Bottom; step-daughter Patricia and Robert Bartron of Mesa, AZ; brothers Ernest and Wesley Wilbur, both of Hop Bottom; sisters Doris Hayes and Alyce Pratt, both of Hallstead and Mary Jenkins of Elmira, NY; numerous nieces and nephews.

Lillian is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 W. Tioga St. in Tunkhannock with Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 a.m. in the Church of the Nativity B.V.M. in Tunkhannock. Interment will be in Pieta Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
