Thousands of students throughout our country are members of an organization known as Future Business Leaders of America or “FBLA.” The club isn’t just about introducing youth to the world of business and how it operates, it’s about much more. In the time that anyone holds membership, they can look back and say they had built skills that they were going to carry and use for the rest of his or her lives.
Pictured (l-r) above: Mitchell Wages, Gafston Stone, Taylor Guinan, Michael Dorunda, Allison Coller, Frank Barton, Caleb Park, and Jessica Kovitch.
This past January our region held a competition for the students within the schools located in Region 27 to challenge each other, all of them hoping to place high enough to qualify for advancement to the State Competition. Blue Ridge High School left this competition with many students; eight of them smiling, high-fiving, and calling their parents to say, “I’m going to states!” These students - Taylor Guinan, Jessica Kovitch, Caleb Park, Gafston Stone, Frank Barton, Michael Dorunda, Mitchell Wages, and Allison Coller - spent months preparing. Then on Sunday, April 11, they woke up bright and early to start a trip to Hershey where their preparations would be tested.
Although none ranked high enough to attend Nationals in Nashville, TN this summer, two did place - Taylor Guinan made tenth in Marketing and Frank Barton placed seventh in Business Procedures. Surely, if asked, all students would say that they had an amazing time - that being at the State Leadership Conference was an opportunity of a lifetime and extremely rewarding experience.
Thank are extended to FBLA advisor Mr. Joseph Conigliaro, the faculty who aided in chaperoning, and the school board for approving to finance the trip.
