Mt. View Students Give Thanks

Could I please have more soup?  Could I please have another muffin?  Those were the sounds heard up and down the first grade hall of the Mountain View Elementary School on November 25.  The first grade students of Mrs. Brandi Miller, Mrs. Anne Bode, Mrs. Jamie Janesky,  Mrs. Kristin Smith and Mr. Mark Ezdebski celebrated their Thanksgiving feast with a meal that everyone helped to prepare.  The children, with the help of their teachers and several volunteers, made homemade chicken noodle soup.  The children helped to prepare the chicken, chop the vegetables, pour the broth, and add the noodles.  With their homemade soup, they enjoyed a bounty of corn muffins, popcorn, oranges and juice, followed by a dessert of pumpkin and apple pie.  Sitting at one large table, the children were able to get a sense of what the first Thanksgiving felt like.  It was an enjoyable and educational feast for all!

The goal of the NTHS is to see that deserving technical students are recognized and that people of the community become aware of the talents and abilities of the young people and adults who choose technical education pathways to a successful future.

The National Technical Honor Society is now in its sixth year. Instructors were asked to nominate students and those students were asked to complete the application process. Applications were reviewed for academic standing, attendance, citizenship, instructor recommendation and involvement in outside activities. Based on a lengthy review process, qualifying students were then notified of this outstanding achievement.

Students and family members were invited to an induction ceremony that took place on Wednesday, December 16 in the SCCTC’s “A Touch of Class” and “Serfass Solarium” restaurants. Each student was recognized and presented with a certificate, flowers and NTHS memorabilia.

Students from seven area high schools attend the SCCTC. They are Blue Ridge, Elk Lake, Lackawanna Trail, Montrose Area, Mountain View, Susquehanna Community, and Tunkhannock Area High Schools. The programs available at SCCTC are open to high school students in grades ten through twelve and adult learners.

B/R Students Give Back

The holiday season finds many people giving of their time and resources to others in need. Nowhere will you find that generosity more evident than at Blue Ridge Middle School. On Saturday, December 12 members of the National Jr. Honor Society rang the bell for the Salvation Army at Rob’s Market in Great Bend. The students donned Santa hats and passed out candy canes while collecting for the organization that provides help for many people in our area. Ninety percent of all donations to the Salvation Army remain within Susquehanna County. The students enjoyed spreading the cheer and spirit of the season with their community. Participating students included: Jenna Bennett, Leif-Axel Berg, Adam Collins, Zach Edwards, Austin French, Morgan Gillespie, Sierra Hall, Bethany Krug, Brittany Ucci and Shania Yachymiak.

Earlier this year, the NJHS held its annual “Pie in the Face” contest and donated all proceeds to the Caring Café in Great Bend to assist with the meal program run by their volunteers. The hard work of the students and the great sportsmanship of the teaching staff make this a very successful event that is much anticipated and enjoyed by the entire middle school student body.
