First Baptist To Hold Open House

The members and friends of First Baptist Church would like to invite everyone to an Open House that will be held on Saturday, June 13 in honor of Pastor Fred and Beverly Johnson. The Open House will be held at the First Baptist Church, 695 Jackson Avenue, Susquehanna, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Pastor and Mrs. Johnson will be leaving the church family and community this month. Everyone who is acquainted with Pastor and Beverly is cordially invited to stop by and wish them well.

Pastor Fred and his wife, Beverly, will be moving on June 26 to Fort Edward, NY. They moved here eleven years ago in May from North Rose, NY and now they will be living next to their youngest daughter. "I'm not retiring," he clarifies, "as I will never retire from serving the Lord. I plan to do interim work, bible conferences, assisting pastors, and filling in wherever I can. I am excited to see what the Lord opens up for us."

“There have been many changes at the church over the last eleven years and I rejoice in what the Lord has done. It has not been because of one person, the church board or even the congregation, but it has all been because of the Lord. He is the one we praise and give all the glory to!

It is hard to leave my "sheep" (congregation) behind. I love my people and they will always be a part of my life. It is our desire that the church will remain a "lighthouse" here on the corner - a place where Jesus Christ is preached and glorified. It has been a blessing to see our AWANA and teens group grow. They truly are our church of tomorrow.

Susquehanna has been a great place to live and we have enjoyed it here. The folks are neighborly and friendly. They made us feel a part of the community right away."

This month marks 43 years that he has been in the ministry, pastoring churches in New York and Pennsylvania. His first pastorate was at the Buckingham Baptist Church in Starlight back in 1966.
