St. Paul’s To Hold Vespers Service

The Second Sunday Vesper Service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, June 14 at Historic St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Corner of Church and Chestnut St., Montrose, PA.

Louise and Kenneth Smith will serve as greeters at the door and Alisoun Bertsch will welcome the congregation. Larry Souder will serve as lector for the lay-led service. Sarah Bertsch will serve as organist.

The Vesper Psalms, the lections, the hymns and the solemnity will provide an appropriate ending to the day. “Vespers provides a wonderful way for lay people to take liturgical leadership and to gather for worship whatever your religious affiliation.”

The service will open with the singing of an evening hymn and the Vesper Candle will be lighted. There will be a recitation of a Psalm, and the reading of a lesson from both the Old and New Testament. There will be a time to pause for a period of personal reflection and meditation during appropriate music on the organ played by Sarah Bertsch.

The Lord’s Prayer will be recited in unison and the Lay Lector will read a responsive prayer. The service will end by singing “Let There Be Peace on Earth” at which time the light from the Vesper Candle will be passed to every member of the congregation.

Following the Office of Vespers, the congregation is invited to a light supper in the Parish House of St Paul’s Church. The supper will be prepared and served by a team from member congregations.
