Christmas Department Store At Montrose UMC The annual Christmas Department Store will be held at the Montrose United Methodist Church, 90 Church St., on December 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is the eleventh year for this unique event, which previously has had lines forming in the parking lot soon after eight o’clock. One of the big attractions is in the “attic treasures” gift center, which is filled with new and like-new items at very low prices. There one can buy toys, household goods, jewelry, toiletries, Christmas cards, sporting goods, books, games, puzzles, stuffed animals, gift tins, dishes, and much more. Included in this reduced price collection are Christmas decorations for the home and tree. More realistically priced are the handmade crafts and foods of many kinds. Lunch will be available in the downstairs area from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Free gift wrapping is available if you so desire.
The Susquehanna County Commissioners announced the Courthouse will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 22 and 23, in observance of Thanksgiving Day. All court related offices will be available.
Blue Ridge High Hosts Annual Health Fair Blue Ridge High School will once again host the ninth annual Susquehanna County Health Fair on November17, from 10 a.m. through 1 p.m. Pictured is Wesley Ward, winner of this year’s poster contest. Once again a poster contest was held, and this year’s winner of the $25 award was Wesley Ward. As in the past, this year’s Health Fair will bring information from government and non-profit agencies, area businesses and health care providers, including Endless Mountains Health Systems and Barnes Kasson Hospital. This year flu shots will be available from both area hospitals for a $15.00 fee. Some of the features are free health screenings for cholesterol, skin cancer, bone density, blood pressure, hearing, colon cancer, visual acuity, tetanus shots and blood sugar. There will also be an appearance by the STAT Medevac Helicopter, weather permitting. Watch the County Transcript for more information on what will be offered this year. If you have limited or no health care coverage, this stop should be a must for you and your family. If you are interested in being a participant in this year’s festivity, contact Donna Doyle at 278-5177.
