HOWARD S. COLWELL, SR.

Howard S. Colwell, Sr., 82, Windsor, NY, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, January 28, 2003. He was born December 23, 1920, in Great Bend Township.

Howard is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Florence Brown Colwell; seven sons and two daughters, Howard, Jr. and Merna Colwell, Great Bend, Charles and Cindy Colwell, Windsor, Clarence Colwell and Marilyn Shaffer, Great Bend, Carlton and Connie Colwell, New Milford, Stanley Colwell and Stacy Heeman, New Milford, Donald R. and Marion Colwell, Great Bend, Douglas and Debbie Colwell, Vestal, NY, Janet and Tom Dayton, Great Bend, Judy Colwell, Knoxville, TN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Marcella Colwell, Great Bend, Merle and Jean Colwell, Windsor, Arlyn and Shirley Colwell, Windsor, Arnold and Jane Colwell, Jackson, Ronald Colwell, Franklin Hill, Madeline Osterhout, Kirkwood, NY, Olive Colwell, Hallstead, Doris Smith, Akron, OH, Irving Brown, Hallstead, Helen and Foster Oakley, Gibson; 28 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Howard was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Eleanor Colwell; his stepmother, Anna; brothers and sisters, Roberta and Horace Loucks, Florance and Leon Beavans, Fern and Walter Bell, Dorothy and Winfred Quinn, Gerald Colwell, Ralph Colwell, Richard Colwell, Leslie Colwell, Ruth Colwell; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Osterhout, Bill Smith; three grandchildren.

Howard was a lifetime dairy farmer. He was a member of the Locust Hill Bible Church. For more than 25 years, he was a 4-H leader for the Locust Hill 4-H Club. He helped with judging cattle at the Harford Fair. He was a member of the East Great Bend Grange and was a Delegate of Eastern Milk Producers.

A funeral service was held on February 1, from the United Methodist Community Church, Great Bend, PA, with the Reverend James Mitchell officiating. Interment will be in Newman Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to thank Lourdes Hospice for making Howard’s last days comfortable.
