Local Students Get AU Scholarships

Hard work in high school has paid off for college-bound area seniors.

Alvernia University's $20,000 Shirley and Joseph Boscov Scholars Program is the premier award for outstanding Berks County high school graduates who thrive in the classroom and outside it, through volunteer and community involvement. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5, a minimum SAT score 1100, strong leadership skills, and a record of community service involvement.

Applicants for Alvernia's $18,000 Presidential Scholarship must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and minimum SAT score of 1130 on the old test/1200 on the new one (or 25 ACT). The university's $17,000 Trustees Scholarship requires a minimum GPA of 3.2 and minimum SAT score of 1050 SAT old/1130 new (or 23 ACT), and the $16,000 Veronica Founder's Scholarship requires applicants to have minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum SAT score of 980 old/1060 new (21 ACT).

The following local students have earned Merit Scholarships to attend Alvernia University in the fall:

Emily Frye of Thompson, a student at Susquehanna Community High School, has been granted the Presidential Scholarship to study Occupational Therapy at Alvernia in the fall.

Corryn Prince of Forest City, a student at Forest City Regional High School, has been granted the Presidential Scholarship to study Forensic Science at Alvernia in the fall.

Delia Geyer of New Milford, a student at Blue Ridge High School, has been granted the Trustees' Scholarship to study at Alvernia in the fall.

Local Students On LM Dean's List

Kristine Carlsen of Hallstead and Brooke Marvin of Susquehanna have made the Dean's List for the Fall, 2017 semester at Le Moyne College. To make the list, students must achieve a 3.5 or above.

Mary Brennan Is Student Teaching

Mary Brennan, of Browndale will serve as a student teacher at Honesdale High School in the Wayne Highlands School District. Brennan, is majoring in secondary education - biology at the Jesuit university.

Meghan Gilhool On WNEU Dean's List

Meghan Gilhool, of Montrose, has been named to the Dean's List at Western New England University for the Fall Semester of 2017. Gilhool is working toward a degree in Health Sciences.

Students are named to the Dean's List for achieving a semester grade point average of 3.30 or higher.
