Joan M. Battisti
Joan Marie (Houlihan) Battisti, 82, a life-long resident of Susquehanna, PA, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2018 at Bradford County Manor in Troy, PA. She was the wife of the late Sandino (Sandy) Battisti. They were married for 56 years when he passed in 2008. She was born in Taylor, PA., the daughter of Carl and Louise Houlihan.
Joan was a loving mother who was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind her two daughters, Lou Ann and her husband, Michael Kilmer of Wyalusing, PA, and Elaine DeCastro-Greenlief and her husband, Doug Greenlief of Charleston, SC; one son and daughter in law, David and Renee Battisti of Malvern, PA. She was also extremely proud of her seven grandchildren, Joshua Kilmer and his wife, Susan Kilmer, Ethan Kilmer and his wife, Tifany, Maria (DeCastro) and her husband, Nick Van De Weert, Matthew DeCastro and his wife, Alicia, Justin Kilmer, Cameron Battisti, and Alexandra Battisti; and her seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Noah Kilmer, Connor, Charlotte and Samuel DeCastro, Hadley Van De Weert, and Caleb Kilmer. In addition, she is survived by sister –in-law, Catherine Battisti; her loving niece, Ann Finemore (John); nephew, John (Jack) Battisti; and a host of close friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sandy; her parents; infant twin sons, David and Joseph; father and mother in law, Louis and Elena Battisti; brother, Jack Houlihan; brothers in law, John, Dominic and Julius Battisti; special uncle and aunt Joseph and Catherine Carrigg.
Joan was a 1952 graduate of Laurel Hill Academy and worked for over 40 years at numerous places in the greater Susquehanna area. She was a C.N.A. and especially loved caring for the elderly in their homes. An active, recognizable and vibrant fixture in the Susquehanna community for decades, Joan was a proud and longstanding supporter of the Susquehanna Fire Company where she served in various leadership positions in the women’s Auxillary. In addition, she was a dedicated member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Susquehanna, and was active in numerous other local organizations.
A Funeral Mass was held on Monday, January 8, 2018 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Susquehanna.
Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Susquehanna at the convenience of the family.
We thank God for the gift of Joan’s life and the joy with which she lived it, and cherish the blessing of the time we all had to share and spend with her.

Lenore M. Spoonhower
(Aunt Norey) Lenore M. Spoonhower, 55, of Susquehanna, Pa. passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa.
She was predeceased by her parents Frank & Dorothy Spoonhower and recently by her Davie Uncle Scales.
Lenore is survived by sisters, Kim (Brenda Stiffen) Spoonhower and Pam (Joel) Rockwell; special sister, Sara Armetta; nieces and nephews, Jeffrey (Sarah), Amy, Danny & Michael Ervin; special grandnephew and grandniece, Noah Nalls and Laney Ervin; several cousins and many wonderful close friends.
Lenore worked at the Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna, PA in the registration department for many years. She belonged to the St. John’s Catholic Church in Susquehanna, PA along with the Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed ceramics, sending greeting cards and spending time with her friends and family, especially with all the children. She will be dearly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Saturday, January 6, 2017 at the St. John’s Church in Susquehanna, PA.
Interment will be held in the St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA.

Rose “Grandma” Potter
Rose Evelyn Potter, 89 of Starrucca, PA, passed away at her home on Monday, January 1, 2018.
She was predeceased by her son, Thomas Potter; three sisters, Delores “Babe” Carpenter, Katherine “Kitty” Hubbs, Jane Stearns; three brothers, Paul, John and Thomas Gilleran; parents, Mary Ann and James Gilleran.
Rose is survived by her sisters, Helen Gilleran of Florida and Claire and Carl Johnson of Virginia; two granddaughters, Mary Wayman and Amanda Potter; three great-grandchildren, Austin and Thomas Wayman and Anthony Carroll.
She was a member of St. Paul’s and St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Rose grew up on the family dairy farm, the “Gilleran Farm”, where she lived most of her life. Rose had made a life of care-giving to family and was like a mother to many others, especially her grandchildren. She adored children and always looked towards engaging in conversation about people, places, and the weather. Rose will be remembered most for her kindness, generosity, sincerity, hard-working drive, strong-willed soul, sharp-mind and recollection ability, and for her love of chocolate (especially ice cream).
The family would like to extend a thank you to AsceraCare Hospice and to her weekend aides, Kellie Lee and Tammy Allen, which had provided utmost care and comfort for her during her battle.
A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at 10:00am at the St. Martin of Tours Church, Jackson, PA, with Rev. David Cramer officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Paul’s Cemetery, Starrucca, PA.
