Gerald Fredrick Benson - Semper Fidelis

Gerald F. Benson, age 83 of Turnpike Street, Susquehanna died on November 9, 2017 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore.

Jerry grew up, went to school, married, and raised his family in Susquehanna.  He moved to Saratoga Springs, NY in the early 1980’s then retired to Mount Plymouth, Florida in 1990.  In the summer of 2015, he returned to his hometown of Susquehanna where he spent the rest of his life.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents, John W. and Winona (Deakin) Benson; and his brother and sister-in-law, John L. and Joanna (Rettie) Benson.

Survivors include his children, John R. and Debra Benson, Gerald and Sandra Benson, Jeffery Benson, and Jodi Benson; grandchildren, Jill and Kyle Snell, Jaime Benson and Sean Mulhern, Jennifer Benson, Rachael Benson, Shannon Rockwell, Chad and Courtney Benson, Shayna Benson and Darryl Jaget, Jr., David and Brandy Benson, Ginny Lane, and Debra Barton; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Allona and Carl Haley; And his former spouse, Virginia (Curran) Benson.

Jerry graduated from Susquehanna High School in 1952 where he played on the school’s very first baseball team.  He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1955 and was a retired locomotive engineer and official for the Delaware & Hudson Railroad.

He was one of the “Original Six” members of the Stinky Boys motorcycle club and most recently a member of American Legion Post 86.  Jerry was loved and admired by friends and family.  He will be missed immeasurably.

Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Susquehanna.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
