Susky Students Visit Cornell U
Submitted By Bridget Milos
On October 19, Susquehanna Community High School students in grades 9-11 visited Cornell University. Students met with the admissions staff for an overview of the application process and tips for a successful college application. Students then broke up into smaller groups and were able to experience different science, medical, and engineering labs throughout the afternoon.

The Susquehanna Community High School students took time to “pose” at a Cornell University gateway
Towards the end of the day, students met with former Susquehanna student, Emily Staros, who gave the students an in-depth tour of the college campus. She showed them popular sights such as the campus store, the Cornell School of Law, two different libraries, and the chapel. Emily is currently a senior studying chemistry at Cornell University.
A big thank you goes out to John Kukowski for organizing the day and communicating with the staff at Cornell to make it a positive experience for our students. Also, a big thank you goes out to the Claire Williams O'Neil Foundation (CWO) for funding this event. Without this foundation, field trips like this one would not be possible.

Blue Ridge Elem. Opens Hockey Game
On Saturday, October 21, twenty-eight students representing Blue Ridge Elementary School had the opportunity to sing the Star-Spangled Banner at the opening of a Binghamton Devils hockey game at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.

Fourth and Fifth grade chorus director Kristen Burkhart directs Blue Ridge Elementary students singing the Star-Spangled Banner at the October 21st Binghamton Devils hockey game. Principal Danelle Decker (pictured left) also joined the students on the ice.
According to Michael Karpowich, Director of Corporate Partnerships, Blue Ridge had the distinction of being the first school chorus to open a game with the National Anthem since the Devils began operations in Binghamton this year. The students rehearsed during chorus classes in the weeks leading up to the performance and did a great job on the ice. They were then able to enjoy an exciting hockey game with their families, which culminated in a 4-3 loss to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
