Just Shut Up

Somebody ought to tell the child in the White House that the more he taunts Kim Jong Un, the more the North Korean dictator will act up, merely to save face.

Somebody should tell him that the North Korean regime has always justified its power by invoking a US threat to North Korea. Every time the child in the White House threatens them, he's playing right into Kim Jong Un's hands.

The smartest thing he could do is just shut up. I guarantee there would be fewer missiles lubbed into the Pacific. Unless the actual purpose of the childish insults and over-the-top threats is to provoke a nuclear war. That's where we're heading. It is not necessary and not inevitable. It's a choice, and it depends more on us than on them. How I wish we had an adult in the Oval Office instead of a geriatric brat.

Sincerely,
Stephen Van Eck

Please Correct The Record

On Aug, 2, 2017 in the article, "Driver Questions Truck Safety", there were several substantial errors. Since I have pending legal cases regarding my rollover accident of an XNG truck on 2/21/17, I feel it is important to correct the record.

The article incorrectly states I told the planning commission that "XNG modified the Quantum Freightliner rigs to haul bigger loads of gas, making them top heavy and subject to tipping."

First, the tractor is a CNG powered Freightliner Cascadia. The trailer is a Quantum. While it is true that the manufacturer of the trailer has created an unstable, top-heavy design, I never said that XNG had modified the trailers.

Next, while it is true I was cited for a traffic violation, the author failed to mention that all charges against me relating to this incident were dismissed.

The author also failed to mention the numerous problems with Electronic Log Devices that XNG was using at the time. These units would frequently go offline, report an incorrect location, and report incorrect speed.

Also, it was the Fifth Wheel Slider Pin which sheared in the accident. This was reported incorrectly in the article.

Matt Smith of XNG is quoted saying there were no mechanical problems with the rig. However, Larry Aiello, VP of Fleet Operations showed me photos of the Fifth Wheel Slider Locking mechanism which indicated failure.

The incorrect statements in this article are already impacting my life. I would appreciate correcting the record.

Sincerely,
Alison Mayes

Where Is The Water For Families?

A water line for business but not for the families in Dimock?

What about helping the families in Dimock who are without potable water since 2009 because of gas drilling?

This extension of 3500 feet of water line in Bridgewater Township along route 29 cost a total of 1.5 million dollars.

Susquehanna County Commissioners, PA American Water Company, and the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development helped to fund this project.

This project now "supplies much needed public water to residents, businesses, and public properties along the corridor", according to a report in the "Progress Authority" Report of 2017.

And how about the water line for future development of about 150 acres of existing industrial property in South Montrose?

That line is also positioned for future extensions. Really? How about for the Dimock families.

Unless business is connected to the need for water, then it looks like groups of homes and families are out of luck and not considered for water lines.

We have asked our county commissioners and legislators to help bring in a water line for Dimock and other families in our county, like in Lenox and Franklin Township, and use the Act 13 funds or other sources and have received a resounding NO.

Why are families less deserving than businesses and public properties, like the county jail and the recycling center?

And where is our Governor Wolf when we need him? He came in quietly recently to visit the Endless Mountains Medical Center to take a private tour with invited guests and still hasn't addressed the harm done to our water from the gas industry.

Shame on this County for putting business first over people who are waiting patiently for potable water since losing their private wells to the gas industry.

Sincerely,
Vera Scroggins
Brackney, PA
