The 2016-17 NISCA/Speedo Boys High School Swimming All-America list of the top 100 swimmers has been released and local athlete, John J. Klein is on the list.

John J. Klein, son of John and Bonnie Klein, Jackson, PA, was named as one of the top 100 high school swimmers in the United States for both the 100-yard back stroke and the 200-yard medley relay. In the individual event, John’s backstroke time was 50.33 seconds. In the relay that finished with an overall time of 1:33.84, John swam the backstroke lead-off leg in 23.52 seconds. John graduated from LaSalle College High School, Wyndmoor, PA.
John also competed for four years on the LaSalle College High School water polo team and was a co-captain this past year, where he was an All-State award winner. This fall John will be attending Drexel University and is a member of Drexel’s Division I swim team.
NISCA is the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.
Daniel Braun of Susquehanna, Pa., was selected to serve as a Residential Assistant at Lebanon Valley College for the 2017-18 academic year. Braun, a graduate of Susquehanna Community High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in exercise science at The Valley.
LVC selects resident assistants (RAs) and resident mentors (RMs) from the student body who live in the residence halls and serve as mentors and role models.
Carine Gregory of Montrose and other second-year medical students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (Geisinger Commonwealth) are this year's organizers of the school's annual Turkey Trot benefitting Friends of the Poor. Friends of the Poor is a Scranton-based nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for the area's low-income community. The student Turkey Trot committee raises funds for Friends of the Poor in a variety of ways leading up to the main event, a 5k/10k run held each November. On Aug. 27, the students held their first fundraiser by selling tickets to a Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders baseball game. Fifty percent of the value of each ticket sold went to the Turkey Trot fund that support Friends of the Poor.
The eighth annual Turkey Trot 5k/10k run will be held this year on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 9 a.m.
