Donald J. Waterman, Sr., 82, of Great Bend, PA was called home to be with the Lord and reunited with his wife and love of his life, Lois on June 28, 2017. Lois predeceased him in August 2012. He was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Jessica.
Don is survived by four children, Debra Dissinger, Donald J. Waterman, Jr., Kevin Waterman, and Audrey Waterman; six grandchildren, Stacy Wolfe, Anthony Dissinger, Donald J. Waterman, III., Christopher Waterman, Savina Smith, and Amanda Smoak; seven great-grandchildren, Parker, Anthony, and Gavin Dissinger, David and Kelsey Wolfe, Natalia and Marshall Smith; brothers, Ira and Lil Waterman, and Francis and Nancy Waterman; sisters, Doris Waterman Cobb, Viola and James Herbert, and Patsy and Jerry Hermann; brothers-in-law, Harold and Carol Smallacombe and Robert Colwell; a sister-in-law, Mina Smallacombe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don, alongside his wife, owned and operated the Corner Store in Great Bend. They enjoyed 23 years together in North Carolina, working, fishing, and boating. He was a member of the United Methodist Community Church, a Life Time member of the Great Bend Hose Company No. 1, and a Life Time member of the Bluestone Lodge #338, F&AM Masonic Lodge. He served as a Volunteer In Policing with the Newport, NC Police Department. Every community he lived in became better, simply by his presence. Don had a twinkle in his eye and a ready smile. He set goals to meet strangers, who quickly became friends, and brighten their day.
A memorial service and birthday celebration will be held on Don’s 83rd birthday, July 5, 2017 at the United Methodist Community Church, Great Bend, PA at 5:30 p.m. Friends may call from 3:30-5:30, at the church prior to the service.
