The Mountain View School District Relay For Life, held to support the American Cancer Society was a huge success

Local Students on Youth Tour
WYSOX, PA — Six high school students from Bradford and Susquehanna counties represented Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative on the 2017 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., June 11-16.
The Youth Tour drew a record 1,800 students from across the country to the nation’s capital for the annual gathering.
During the tour, students visited Washington’s historic memorials, presidential monuments and Arlington National Cemetery and explored the Smithsonian museums, the Newseum and the National Zoo. They also met with federal legislators at the Capitol and enjoyed an evening boat cruise on the Potomac River.
Selected on the basis of an application, essay or video and extracurricular activities, the following students, all entering their senior year of high school, represented Claverack on the 2017 Youth Tour: Delia Geyer of New Milford, daughter of Chris Geyer and Lisa Geyer, Blue Ridge High School; Emma Bly, daughter of Bernie and Lonna Bly of Granville Summit, Canton Jr.-Sr. High School; Whitney Madill, daughter of Drew and Carol Madill of Monroeton, Towanda Area High School; Benjamin Alderson of Warren Center, son of Larry Alderson and Beth Alderson and stepson of Janet Alderson, Northeast Bradford High School; Emma Mangel, daughter of Kathleen Mangel of Hallstead, Blue Ridge High School; Steven Chenot, son of Andre and Donna Chenot of Towanda, Towanda Area High School.

Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative’s student delegates get set to take in a performance of “The Sound of Music” at the Kennedy Center during the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. President Lyndon B. Johnson is credited with inspiring the Youth Tour when he addressed the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Annual Meeting in Chicago as a senator in 1957.
The first coordinated Youth Tour took place in 1964 and was attended by about 400 students from a dozen states. The event is organized annually through a joint effort of NRECA and statewide electric cooperative associations from around the country.

Susquehanna Community School District Class Night 2017

The annual Class Night program at Susquehanna Community High School was held on Friday, June 2nd at 6:30 p.m. During this honorable occasion, each student was recognized for their achievements and accomplishments, which were presented by their fellow classmates: Hannah Day, Chad Lee, Madison Canfield, John Abruzzo IV, Marissa Gaglione, and Evan Haley. We also had several presenters who came to deliver a variety of awards and scholarships to the Class of 2017. Every student was recognized for sports, certificates, volunteer activities, scholarships and their plans for their future. Saige Perry, 2017 Senior Class President, welcomed parents, faculty, School Board and friends. She also gave a description of several awards that were being presented throughout the evening. High School Principal, Carmella Bullick, said a few words highlighting the class of 2017 and commending them on their accomplishments as well. Musical selections were performed by Marissa Gaglione and Amy Zebrowski. We congratulate Susquehanna Community’s Class of 2017 and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors!

Locals Graduate Kutztown
Kutztown University has conferred degrees on more than 1,200 students during the winter and spring semesters. Kutztown University announces degree conferment twice a year, once in the winter and once in the summer. Commencement exercises are held in May and December; however, students finish their requirements for graduation throughout the entire year. The cumulative grade point average necessary for honor distinction is: with honor (cum laude) 3.40; with high honor (magna cum laude) 3.60 and with highest honor (summa cum laude) 3.80. The following students have been awarded degrees since the summer 2016 announcement. Students who have requested privacy (FERPA) are not listed publicly.
