Voices Of Hope In Hallstead

The Pittsburgh School for the Choral Arts, in partnership with First Presbyterian Church of Hallstead, 95 Pine Street, Hallstead, PA, presented a concert by the Girls Chamber Choir from Pittsburgh, PA -- “Voices of Hope” on Friday, June 16, 2017.

Directed by Laura Petravage and Emily Swora, music in this concert inspires hope. Through the clear tones of a girls choir, you are invited to experience the hope that results from looking beyond our circumstances to the Divine. The program includes “Anne Frank: A Living Voice” by Linda Tutas Haugen. In this work, you will experience every emotion that Anne must have felt. There are moments of great fear, chaos and anger. Out of this torment, emerges words of beauty, joy, innocence and authenticity. The entire work builds to the last movement that reveals the heart of Anne Frank– ‘And yet when I look up at the sky I somehow feel that everything will change for the better. That this cruelty will end and peace will return once more.’ Additional works performed will include Jackson Berkey’s Cantata 2000, David Childs’ Song of Ruth and Weep No More, Ola Gjeilo’s Ubi Caritas and Nancy Grundahl’s Hebrew Rounds for Peace.

The Girls Chamber Choir from Pittsburgh is comprised of girls from 8th through 12th grade, tours annually and sings a varied repertoire of challenging, multi-part women’s choral music, both classical and contemporary. The choir has performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Pacific International Children’s Choir Festival and the Pittsburgh Jewish Music Festival and has recorded a number of albums.

New Milford Twp. Bridge Replacement

Construction for the Old Lackawanna Trail (Route 1018) bridge, spanning Beaver Creek in New Milford Township, is scheduled to begin as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. Replacement of this bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Susquehanna County’s structurally deficient bridge list.

Construction began during the week of June 19 and will be completed in late August. During this time, drivers will be directed to follow a detour along Old Route 11(Main Street), Church Street (Route 1033) and Steam Hollow Road (Route 1037).

In the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities, this schedule may change.

This bridge is referred to as JV-152 and is one out of the 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project. JV references the joint-venture partnership between Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.

The Rapid Bridge Replacement Project is a public-private partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP), under which PWKP will finance, design, replace, and maintain the bridges for 25 years. The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impacts on motorists.

Pet of the Week

Chacho

Hi, I'm Chacho and I’m looking for love and hoping to find that perfect match. Here's my profile: I’m a feisty little 2 year old man with a heart of gold. I love to cuddle, go for walks and am told I'm quite the smoocher!. I particularly enjoy siesta time snuggled up with my special someone. I have a bit of a chihuahua attitude, although I am a pint sized peanut weighing all of 3 lbs, my mind set tells me I can tackle dogs of bigger stature so it's best I remain your one and only. I'm also a bit too enthusiastic around those cuddly cat creatures so a home minus kitties would be best. So if you're seeking a one on one relationship with a guy who has it all-looks, charm, personality, wit and yes, I'm even neutered, come in and meet me. I'll be the one in the sombrero.

As our by far tiniest resident at True Friends, Chacho is scared at the shelter and we would love to find him a home ASAP. He would be perfect for an older person in need of some extra companionship!! For more information on Chaco, please call the shelter or stop by to meet him!

True Friends are looking for vendors for our 6th annual Woofstock on Saturday, August 19th at Salt Springs Park. Vendor fees are a $50 donation and if you are interested please email us at petstruefriends@gmail.com or call #570-396-6011.

Fun Fact: Chihuahuas were originally known as Arizona or Texas dogs because they were first found in those states bordering Mexico. Chacho is a PA dog who is hoping to soon be found living in your heart!
