Jim Remsen to Speak at OMV

The Susquehanna County Historical Society, The Old Mill Village and the Center for Anti-Slavery Studies will be presenting author Jim Remsen to speak about his book, “Embattled Freedom” at the Old Mill Village Church (the Old Presbyterian Church) on the Green (Park Street) in New Milford, June 25, at 2PM

Jim Remsen

“Embattled Freedom” is a nonfiction book about fugitive slaves fleeing north on the Underground Railroad to Waverly, Pa. Once there, they were given jobs, land and other support that established the settlement known as “Colored Hill”. When the Civil War came and the call went out for black recruits, a dozen men and boys left the safety of Colored Hill to return south and fight in the Union Army. Along with discussing his book, Jim will be discussing his discoveries while doing research for this book, the Underground Railroad, its connection to our County and more!

For more information about Jim Remsen and his books check out his website: www.jimremsen.com.
