Louis Joseph Caso, 86, passed away peacefully, though unexpectedly, after a brief illness on Thursday, April 13, 2017. Lou was born in Susquehanna PA, a son of Dominic and Frances Baretta Caso. In addition to his parents, Lou is predeceased by his brother, John Caso and daughter-in-law, Tricia Caso.
Lou is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elaine Whitehead Caso; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis Caso of Ithaca, NY; Steven G. and Pansy Caso of Rochester, NY with their sons, Gerrard, James and Richard, Michael D. and Molly Caso of North Yarmouth, ME with their children, Nathan and Georgia, David S. Caso of Delmar, NY with his sons, Samuel and Benjamin; sister, Dorothy Caso of Binghamton, NY; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carlton and Helen Whitehead of New Milford, PA, Emerson and Eva Whitehead of Susquehanna, PA, Joel and Agnes Whitehead of Jackson, PA, Carol Timlin of Philadelphia, PA; several nieces and nephews.
Lou was a US Army veteran and served in Germany. He was a welder at Westinghouse in Horseheads, NY before going to work as a millwright at Corning Inc. until he retired. Lou was a member of SPEBQSA (a male barbershop society) and a member of Mark Twain and Arrowhead Choruses. He enjoyed attending Barbershop conventions and competitions.
Lou was a talented musician who played the saxophone and clarinet, enjoying many genres of music. He enjoyed flying remote airplanes and years ago Lou belonged to the Flying Sparks. Lou loved the outdoors, enjoyed camping with his family, and was a Cub Scout leader, in earlier years. During the 1980’s Lou was very involved with the unemployment council in the Elmira area.
He was also a member of the Friends of Mount Saviour Monastery.
The service closed with military honors.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, April 18 at Mount Saviour Monastery.
