APRIL 5 – 19

CHICKEN SPIEDIES: Wednesday evenings, starting April 5 to 19 from 4:30pm – 7:00pm at the Susquehanna High School gym doors. All the proceeds go to benefit Students Services Learning trip to Peru.

APRIL 12

ORGAN MEDITATION: Wednesday, April 12 at noon at the First Presbyterian Church, 120 Church Street, Montrose. Johanna Masters, Cathy Hammons and Lee Roseboom will be our musicians, followed by a free soup and bread luncheon in the Fellowship Hall.

APRIL13

LOVE FEST: Thursday, April 13 at 7:00PM at the UMCC Great Bend will hold a Love Fest. Gather around the table as we share our testimony of family and friends as we remember the last night Jesus spent with his disciples and other followers in the upper room.

APRIL 14

“THE LAST WORDS”: Friday, April 14 at 7:00PM at UMCC Great Bend will experience the last hours of Jesus through the words of Ronald D. Vaughan’s readers’ theater “The Last Words”. Hear eight of those who were there tell their story and join us in song as the story unfolds.

APRIL 15

GOOD NEWS LUNCH: Saturday, April 15 at noon at the St Marks Church, New Milford. Free meal, all are welcome.

FEEDING THE FISHES: Saturday, April 15 at 9:00AM at Salt Springs Park, the friends will be on hand to welcone all onthis first day of trout fishing in our two stocked streams. Hot food will be available for purchase.

CHAINSAW DAY: Saturday, April 15 at 9:00AM at Salt Springs Park. On this first day of park cleaning in April, we make firewood our of dead and downed trees. Bring chainsaws and trucks if you can. Free food and t-shirts for all volunteers.

APRIL 16

CROSS READING: Sunday, April 16 at 6:00AM, the UMCC Great Bend will meet at the cross (corner of Main Street and Elizabeth Street) to hear the story of the empty tomb as told by the women. Communion by intinction will be served. Breakfast will follow in the social hall at 7:00AM

RISEN CHRIST: Sunday, April 16 at 10:30AM, the UMCC Great Bend will celebrate the glory and majesty of the Risen Christ. Communion will be served. Experience the joy and wonder of the resurrection.

ALIVE TOGETHER!: Sunday, April 16 at 6:00PM, the UMCC Great Bend Alive Together will not be meeting.

APRIL 18

GARDEN CLUB: on Tuesday, April 18 at 7:00PM in the Clifford Fire Hall, the Mountain View Garden Club will hold their meeting with Master Gardener, Susan Maslar giving a presentation on how to get started with backyard chickens. The public and new members are always welcome.

APRIL 22

TRAIL DAY: Saturday, April 22 at 11:00AM at Salt Springs Park. Volunteer clean-up day at the Park. We’ll tackle everything from leaves to logs and dust to trail debris. Free food and t-shirts for all volunteers.

COMMUNITY LUNCHEON: Saturday, April 22 from Noon to 1:30PM at the Christ Episcopal Church on the corner of Delaware and Dunsaff in Forest City. Bring your family and friends, share a hearty lunch and wonderful camaraderie.

APRIL 23

EGG HUNT: Sunday, April 23 at 1:00PM at Salt Springs Park. Learn about amazing PA amphibian and setting up an egg hatching system. The hike to collect eggs is less than a mile and includes a stream crossing.

ALIVE TOGETHER!: Sunday, April 23 at 6:00PM, the UMCC Great Bend will be celebrating the Easter Story a week later. We pray you enjoyed Easter Dinner with your family and are ready to one more time hear “Dance For You Have Been Healed” as we conclude Lenten Healing Series.

APRIL 27

ANNUAL MEETING: Thursday, April 27 at 7:00PM, the Lyon Street Cemetery Association will hold their annual meeting at the home of Nancy Harvatine. For more information, contact Susan Harvatine at 570-679-2386.

APRIL 28 & 29

RUMMAGE AND BAKE SALE: Friday, April 28 from 9am-2pm and Saturday, April 29 from 9am-1pm at the Franklin Hill Presbyterian Church. Lunch is served both days (homemade soups and sandwiches). Located halfway on Franklin Hill Road between Lawsville Center on Rte 29 and Summersville on Rte 11.

Senior Center Menu, April 17-21

MONDAY: BBQ Chicken sandwich, broccoli cheese soup, seasoned potato wedges, whole wheat sandwich roll, tropical fruit.

TUESDAY: Roast turkey, sweet potatoes, peas and pearl onions, biscuit, strawberries and whipped topping.

WEDNESDAY: Pork chop, roasted red potato, cauliflower and peas, whole wheat dinner roll, orange.

THURSDAY: Meatloaf, green beans, mashed potatoes, whole wheat dinner roll, baked cinnamon apples.

FRIDAY: Chef salad with chicken, fresh vegetables, potato salad, whole wheat dinner roll, mandarin orange delight gelatin.

Improve Health To Live Longer

10-Keys to Healthy Aging guides individuals on improving health practices so that they may live a longer and more satisfying life. This comprehensive program discusses ten elements that are considered the most important factors that contribute to healthy aging. Disease prevention strategies are key to healthier communities.

This evidence-based program has been successfully employed by schools of nursing as part of their community health/gerontology curriculum, and by hospital/healthcare systems and community-based organizations as disease prevention education for older adults, particularly in under served areas.

Classes will be held at the Area Agency on Aging office in Montrose located at 157 Spruce St., Montrose on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. from May 23rd to June 22nd. Classes are free-for older adults ages 60+. To register call the Area Agency on Aging at 1-800-982-4346. Participants will receive participant’s manual and light refreshments.

Health and Wellness is a wellness and prevention program for older adults. The goal of Health and Wellness is to provide information and encouragement to help older adults make choices to maintain or improve their health and create an ongoing wellness attitude.
