Edward M. Tierney Sr.

Edward M. Tierney Sr.,  81, of Hallstead, PA entered into rest and was reunited with his wife on March 4, 2017.  Sally, his wife of 60 years, predeceased him in September, 2015.

Ed is survived by his children, Edward Jr. and Becky Tierney, Jeffrey Tierney, Julie Barnard and George Stover, Melissa Tierney; six grandchildren, Stephanie and Tim Cheslock, Ashley and Aaron Onyon, Matthew and Ashley Tierney, Sarah Barnard, Adam Tierney, Chad Tierney; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Claire Cheslock, Tanner and Evelyn Tierney; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by three brothers, Charlie, Pat, Dick Tierney; two sisters, Minnie and Josephine; a grandson, Brock Tierney.

Ed was employed as a mechanic for Vogel Motors and retired from PennDOT.  He served as the President of AFSCME Union.  Ed enjoyed photography and sailing with his best friend, Doc Garabedian and his grandson, Matt and daughter, Melissa.

He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.  Ed took special care of Sally and maintained her porch swing while enjoying Sunday morning Polka music.

A prayer service was held Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Inc.

Interment will be made in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Ron McIntosh

Ron McIntosh, 77, died March 5, 2017,  in New Port Richey, FL, after a two-year battle with cancer.

Elected by the Loyal Order of Moose as outstanding citizen in 1966, he moved to Reading that year to pursue a career in journalism that lasted more than 25 years. He was an award-winning reporter and editor for newspapers including the Reading Times, Scranton Times, Orlando Sentinel and Knight-Ridder Newspapers.

Holder of a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism and photo journalism from Empire State College, State University of New York, and a Master of Arts degree in mass communication from Pittsburg, Ks., State University, he was an instructor at Independence Community College 13 Years and an adjunct instructor at Pasco-Hernando, Fl., State College 10 years.

In 2006, McIntosh wrote and published Bowler's Handbook which was sold across the U.S. as well as internationally.

He is survived by his widow, Paulett, three daughters and several grandchildren.

 A Celebration of Life service was held on Thursday, March 9.

John K. Ainey

John K. Ainey, 58, of New Milford, PA went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2017 with his loving family by his side.  He is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Carol Ainey and his father-in-law, Douglas Parker.

John is survived by his loving wife of almost 38 years, Gloria; his three children, John Ainey II, Joshua Ainey, and Melissa Ainey; his mother-in-law, Loretta Parker and his dear four legged friends, Johnson, Tucker, Chanel, and Bear.

John was self-employed, a hard working and well respected businessman.  He founded John’s Sawmill in 1985.  John loved his family, where he lived, his business, walking in the woods, and spending time with his friends. John always cherished his friendships, some in business, others personal but many were both. John had a big heart and a kind soul. He was a great listener and even better storyteller. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and son. John left us too soon and will be missed beyond measure.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Inc, Hallstead, PA.

Spring interment will be made in New Milford Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2017 and 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the funeral home.

Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to The National Stroke Association at www.stroke.org or your local American Legion or V.F.W.

David C. Scales

David C. Scales, 73 passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 6, 2017.  Dave was predeceased by his parents, David J. and Lena (Conklin) Scales; his big sister, Dorothy Spoonhower; and mother-in-law, Jane Brown Benson.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol Brown Scales; children, Daniel (Becky), David (Chris), Damion (Tonya) Scales, Mary (Mike) Scales.  He leaves behind his loving grandchildren, Eric, Tori, Brianna Monico, Zachary George, David and Emma Scales, Ashley and Justin; nieces, Kim, Pam and Lenore Spoonhower; many cousins and other family members. 

In addition to his love for his family, he was devoted to his community serving in several public service positions culminating as Susquehanna Police Chief. He was a life member of the Susquehanna Fire Department and for years served as constable.  He was a communicant of St. John's Church and a member of its Men's Club.

Dave was one of the New York State's first certified paramedics and worked with Superior Ambulance for many years, Dave was also a member of Lodge #63 Fraternal Order of Police.  Dave never hesitated to help someone in need.  The family would like to pay special thanks to Hospice of Sacred Heart individuals who were true angels in our time of need.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the St. John’s Church in Susquehanna, PA on Saturday, March 11.

Interment will be in the St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA.

Mary P. Maloney

Mary P. Maloney, 93, of Susquehanna, PA passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna, PA after an illness.

She was born in Susquehanna the daughter of the late John and Mary (King) Birdsall.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, John Maloney; two sisters, Sister Catherine Birdsall and Evelyn Hough.

She is survived by her son, John and Alicia Maloney; two grandchildren, Oona Maloney, Onora Maloney; dear friend, Marge Wood.

Mary graduated from Carbondale School of Nursing as a Register Nurse. She worked at both the original Barnes Hospital and the present Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna. She was in charge of the Barnes Kasson Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility at the time of her retirement, in 1986.

Mary was a member of the St. John’s Church of Susquehanna.

The funeral service was held on Monday, March 13, at St. John’s Church, Susquehanna, PA where a mass of Christian Burial was offered by Rev. David Cramer.

Ruth E. Clift

Ruth E. Clift, 84 of Susquehanna passed away on Monday, March 6, 2017 after an illness.  She was predeceased by her husband, Guy Clift; her parents, Pearl and Ralph Norton; her sisters, Mildred, Audrey, Marjorie, Rita; special sister-in-law, Audrey.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Terry, Marcia; son-in-law, Jeffrey Potter; brothers, Robert, James, David Norton; her grandchildren, Ian and Josie Potter, Stefan Potter, Karly Potter, Devlin Conrad and his father, Jim; daughters, Mickie, Cassandra; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Owen, Parker, Austin; many nieces and nephews. 

Ruth was a full time working mother devoted to family and home, made the best holiday meals in the world and never seemed too tired to be there for her children and grandchildren. In her retirement years, she enjoyed quilting and crafts, was a lifelong reader, traveled widely and led an exercise class at the senior center.  She was a great game player and usually won, much to the annoyance of her husband.  Her warmth and understanding were a comfort to many and her support to her family will be irreplaceable.

The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, March 9 at The Hennessy's Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, PA with Pastor Vincent Chiaramonte.

Interment will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Blue Ridge Senior Center, PO Box 641, Great Bend, PA 18821.
