LENTEN SERVICE: Wednesday, March 29 at 12:00pm at the Thomson United Methodist Church. Following the Lenten Service will be a soup/bread and dessert lunch as part of the Susquehanna Area Church ministry. All are welcome.

APRIL 1

13TH ANNUAL ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BREAKFAST: Saturday, April 1 from 7am to 10am at the United Methodist Community Church, Main St. Great Bend, PA. Ham and home fries, out “Famous” breakfast sausage, pancakes, scrambled eggs, biscuits and sausage gravy, danish, fruit and beverages. Proceeds benefit UMCC Youth Group Trip to Kingdom Bound Christian Festival.

APRIL 8

SPRING DINNERS: Saturday, April 8th Roast Beef and Ham. Sunday, April 9th Roast Beef and Turkey, both to take place at the South Creek Lions Club in Gillett off Rout 14 at 4:30p. Dinners include “real” mashed potatoes, vegetables, baked beans and home baked bread.

Northern Tier Beef Producer Meetings

Stakeholders and prospective beef producers are invited to join Penn State Extension for its free spring educational meetings. Penn State Extension Livestock Educator Dave Hartman will present “A Dozen Practices to Make Your Pasture and Grazing Program More Effective in 2017” and Penn State Senior Extension Educator Robb Meinen will present “Finding a Happy Marriage Between Manure Compliance and Utilization”.

Meetings will be held from 6:30 - 9:00 P.M. on the following dates and locations: Monday, April 3, Tokishi Center, 124 Nypum Drive, Wellsboro, PA. Tuesday, April 4, Towanda Gun Club, 164 Gun Club Road, Towanda, PA. Wednesday, April 5, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 276 Church Street, Montrose, PA. Cosmello, Ainey Are Boy Scout Citizens

The Delahanna District, Boy Scouts of America in Susquehanna County have named Donna Cosmello and Rick Ainey of New Milford Borough as their 2017 Distinguished Citizens.  Both currently serve as members of the New Milford Borough Council as well as members of other countless organizations in making Susquehanna County a better place to live.

The Distinguished Citizen Award is an annual honor presented by the Delahanna District, which is part of the Baden-Powell Council in Binghamton, NY.  The Delahanna District serves most of Susquehanna County, consisting of 482 registered youth in 20 scouting units.  This year’s event will mark the 27th year that the Boy Scouts have presented a Distinguished Citizen Award in Susquehanna County.

A dinner in Donna Cosmello’s and Rick Ainey’s honor will be held on Saturday May 13, 2017 at the Elk Lake High School Gym with doors opening at 5:00pm and dinner beginning a 5:30pm.  Co-Chairs for the Distinguished Citizen Award are Tom Chamberlain of Hallstead and Dr. Alice Davis PH.D, Executive Director of the Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center.  All proceeds from the dinner will go to support local scouting.  For more information please contact Adam Kovalchick at the Baden-Powell Council Service Center at 607-648-7888.

Manure Management Manual Workshop

Did you know that all farms generating/using manure must now have a manure management plan? The Susquehanna County Conservation District can help you learn the new regulations and write your plan. These one-on-one workshops will be held on March 20th at the Hallstead Public Library from 9-1 and 2-6, March 23rd at the Auburn Township Building from 8-4:30, April 1st at the Susquehanna Depot Library from 9-4, and April 8th at the Susquehanna County Conservation District Office from 9-4.  You can choose a date you would like to attend.

Topics covered by the workshop will include the revised Manure Management Manual, Chapter 102 (Erosion and Sediment Control) updates, and using PAOneStop for your Manure Management Plan. Attendees will receive a copy of the updated Manure Management Manual. One-on-one assistance will be available in order for attendees to leave the workshop with a completed Manure Management Plan for their farm.
