County Crop Day

Penn State Extension is pleased to announce this year’s Susquehanna County Crop Day is being held Tuesday, February 21st, 2017 at the Montrose VFW. On tap are a wide range of timely agronomic topics to assist farmers with their farming businesses. The opportunity will also provide pesticide applicator and certified crop advisor credits.

Seven sessions will be offered at the event and will include weed control and crop production practices.  The agenda was developed especially for Susquehanna County producers based on questions frequently asked.  Dr. Bill Curran, Penn State Extension Weed Control Specialist will discuss “Perennial Weed Management in Hay and Row Crop Fields”, and “What’s New for Weed Control in 2017”.  Dr. Jessica Williamson, Penn State Forage Specialist, will talk about “Maximizing Output per Acre with Annual and Alternative Forages” and the impacts of “Soil pH on Forage Quality and Yield”.  Penn State’s Pesticide Education Specialist, Bill Riden, will also discuss “Pesticide Storage and Security”.

Numerous local agricultural companies including Ag lenders, applicators, seedsmen, equipment dealers and others will be on hand and have displays to support the meeting and answer your questions.  This is a great opportunity to discuss your crop needs and see some of the latest product offerings. The Susquehanna County Conservation District, NRCS and FSA will also be present and available to answer questions.

The conference is held at the Montrose VFW (16972 SR 706, Montrose, PA) and starts 10:00 AM and concluding by 3:30 PM. Registration and visiting with exhibitors begins at 9:00 AM. Reservations are appreciated but not required. Interested parties can register electronically at extension.psu.edu/crops-conferences or contact the local registration desk toll-free at 1-855-394-7534.  Anyone interested in exhibiting or sponsoring the meeting can call Mark Madden at 570-265-2896.
