New Library Makes Major Progress

Major progress is being made on the new Susquehanna County Library building in Bridgewater Township.

Construction on the new library began in August and is expected to be completed by end of May/early June. So far, substantial headway has been made, including room partitions, trusses and significant portions of the roof.

However, the new library still needs support to become a reality. More funding is needed to furnish the building interior. Last November, a group of dedicated volunteers gathered at the new building site to film a GoFundMe fundraising video to raise money for furniture, shelving and carpeting.

You can watch the finished video and make a donation at www.gofundme.com/susqcolibrary.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

SCRC Receives A Williams Donation

The Susquehanna County Recreation Center, SCRC, project received $2500 from Williams as a part of Williams' Home Grown Giving Program. Brandon Sanders, an employee of Williams, requested the grant on behalf of the SCRC. This program allows employees who are actively involved to nominate organizations for funding.

One of Williams's core beliefs is to support the communities where their employees work and live. This donation will have a great impact on the SCRC's ability to continue its mission which is to provide a clean, safe, and fun and community oriented recreational opportunities to the residents of the greater Susquehanna County area. "It is great to see large corporate companies and individuals within the county recognize the need for a recreational facility," said Ashley Kilmer, president of the SCRC. "Little by little we see our project moving forward and it is the members of the community that get all the credit. We are very appreciative to Williams for giving our organization this grant and Brandon for being a voice on behalf of our organization".

Kiwanis Toy Drive A Huge Success

The Kiwanis Club of Montrose Area humbly extends a gracious and heartfelt THANK YOU to all the generous neighbors who contributed money, toys and gifts to our 2016 Toy Drive.  Your donations  made it possible for us to help make a needy child’s dream come true on Christmas morning.  This year the Kiwanis Club received $4,851 from the public and all of this money was used to purchase new toys and gifts.  Also, a special thanks to the Montrose Police Department, Officers Andy Genneken and Josh Diddick, who conducted a “Fill The Cruiser” event on Dec. 3rd  at Ray’s Market in Montrose.  They collected over 125 toys and $201 in cash for the Toy Drive.  They also filled a Police Cruiser with food and $201 in cash.  The food and money went to the local VFW to provide for the Veterans in our area.

2016  marks the 40th consecutive year the Kiwanis Club has participated in this worthwhile community service project.  The Susquehanna County Christmas Bureau, an outreach ministry of Interfaith, coordinated the entire Christmas project.  The new toys and food baskets were distributed on Thursday, December 15, 2016, at the Montrose Bible Conference on Lake Avenue in Montrose.

This year a total of 577 children and 388 families throughout Susquehanna County received gifts and food baskets.  In addition, 189 Seniors received food bags.

Thanks again, for helping us share the spirit of the Christmas season.  The smiles on the faces of the children who receive the toys on Christmas morning is one of the greatest gifts that all of us as givers can receive in return!

Pet of the Week

Snowball

Appropriately named, Snowball is a white ball of fun!  However, he did not always feel so happy.  Until coming to True Friends, Snowball’s life was full of constant itching from a skin disorder left untreated.  Not long after being at our shelter, with some extra TLC, the right food, and medicine, he is feeling better than he ever has and eager for a second start with a new loving home.  Snowball is a 11 year old, neutered, Bichon Frise/ Poodle Mix.  Don’t let his age fool you, he is full of life, love, and lots of slobbery kisses!  Snowball would make the perfect companion for any person or family.

Fun Fact: Dogs and humans have the same type of slow wave sleep (SWS) and rapid eye movement (REM) and during this REM stage dogs can dream. The twitching and paw movements that occur during their sleep really are signs that your pet is dreaming.  Snowball is surely dreaming about you!  Please stop for a visit with him and all his friends who dream every day and night of someone to love and the comforts of a real home.
