Crazy Hair Days

During the last week of October, the Cosmetology students at the Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center (SCCTC) held a “Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness”.  Elk Lake Elementary students were treated to pink glitter, pink hair gel, nail polish and hair braiding for a small donation. The money raised this year totaled $1,367 which is the highest total to date.

A kindergarten student gets the full treatment from SCCTC Cosmetology student Brittany Warfle.

Each year the Cosmetology Department contributes the money raised from Pink Out to Relay for Life which is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Dr. Alice M. Davis, Executive Director of the SCCTC, pointed out how important this yearly fundraiser is to the school and the community.

Susky High School Seniors Biographies

EDITORS NOTE: We were contacted again this year by Susquehanna Community High School to inquire if we might be interested in running short biographies on senior students to give our readers some insight on their plans for the future. As the following will demonstrate, we loved the idea and are happy to allot the space, as available.

Here are some examples of what you can look forward to in upcoming issues.

Anjeclica Birmingham

Anjelica Birmingham

Anjelica Birmingham is the daughter of Antionette Decker and John Birmingham, and step-father, Anthony Decker. Her siblings include sister of Angelina Capolupo-Brady, Austin Capolupo, Sean Birmingham, Hunter Decker, and Anthony Decker. She was born on March 18th, 1999.  She went to Windsor Central School District from 2nd to 9th grade and took part in playing softball for seven years and cheer for eight years. She received a few high honor roll and merit roll certificates as well. She then moved to Florida in the middle of 9th grade where she received her scholar athlete award and stayed there until March of 2016 and moved to Tennessee. She participated in softball at Tennessee as well. She is currently a senior at Susquehanna Community High School where she will graduate.

Birmingham’s favorite class has always  been science. She loves giving advice and helping people out any way that she can. Her favorite quote is “I may not be there yet, but I’m  closer than I was yesterday. “ - Anonymous. This is Birmingham’s favorite quote because it gives her more of a push and motivates herself to keep going. Birmingham’s  most influential person is her grandfather, Antonio Capolupo because he always taught her to never give up and keep pushing because better days are ahead of her. He also gave good advice when it was needed and was well known around the family for his “famous talks.” Also, her most influential experience is always seeing how hard her mother works day in and day out to keep their house going. Thanks to her mother she wants to work as hard as her and be successful like her eventually.  Her advice to underclassmen is to not be a bully, help one another out, and be yourselves!

After high school Birmingham wants to attend college to be a pre-k teacher.

Alexia Presley

Alexia Presley is the daughter of Barbra and Robert Presley. She was born on July 18, 1999 and has two siblings, Ava and Austin Presley. She is a three time Summit University Indoor Track event champion, a member of Honors Society and musical Honors Society, and is an honors student. She has attended three different high schools: Abington Heights High School, Mountain View High School and Susquehanna High School.

Alexia is and has been involved in many organizations and sports including track and field, cheerleading, soccer, student government, class officer where at Mountain View she was class Vice President, Yearbook, and the Mentor Program. During her spare time she likes to read and never leaves home without her wallet. Her most influential person is her mother, because she knows that her mom would be there for her no matter the distance or the hour. Her favorite quote is, “You only live once but, if you do it right once is enough” - Mae West, because it shows that you shouldn't waste your time trying to be someone others want you to be.

Alexandria V. Warring

Alexandria V Warring was born on October 6, 1998 in Barnes-Kasson Hospital. She is the daughter of Robert and Melissa Warring. She has one older sibling, Kodie Warring. She has been involved in Art Club, jazz band, concert band, and chorus since junior year. She has been part of the Mentor Program since her sophomore year. She is also Art Club president. She is frequently on honor roll.

Warring’s favorite classes are physics and chemistry because she enjoys science. Her favorite high school memory was having classes with her friends. Her favorite quote is, “I must be allergic to failure because every time I come close to it I just sneeze. I go achoo and achieve” (Eminem). She finds this quote influential because it urges her to work through failure. Five things Warring would not leave home without are her phone, her wallet, her keys, her iPod, and her purse. Warring’s advice for underclassmen is to enjoy high school, it flies by. Some of her favorite activities include archery, nature walks, playing trumpet, singing, painting and video gaming. Warring’s favorite color is lime green. She likes all kinds of music.

Warring plans to attend Suny Broome for two to four years to become a Medical Laboratory Technician, with a degree in chemistry.

Amy Lee Zebrowski

Amy Lee Zebrowski was born on December 8th, 1998. She is the daughter of Laura and Michael Zebrowski and has a sister, Michelle. Zebrowski moved to Pennsylvania from New Jersey when she was 14 and has been in the Susquehanna Community School District since 8th grade. She was in Girl Scouts for 11 years and, before she moved, used to play the Olympic sport, curling. Zebrowski has also won a silver medal in the National Spanish Exam when she was a sophomore.

Zebrowski’s favorite subjects in school are math, english, and social studies. Her favorite class was world history with Mr. Goodrich in 10th grade. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. Her favorite extracurriculars are chorus and drama. She is also part of the Art and Spanish Clubs. Zebrowski’s favorite quote is “I don’t have the right name or the right looks, but I have twice the heart,” a lyric from the song “Just One Yesterday” by one of her favorite bands, Fall Out Boy. It is her favorite because it reminds her that you don’t need to be famous or attractive to accomplish your goals. One of Zebrowski’s favorite high school memories was the time when Lyndsey Mroz cried because she thought the big fish was eating the little ones in Mrs. Van Gorden’s fish tank.

Zebrowski plans to go to college and study video game development and hopefully become a game programmer. Her advice to the underclassmen is “Don’t let anyone prevent you from being yourself. You’ll enjoy school, and life more if you’re comfortable in your own skin.”

August Cotter

August Cotter is the daughter of Tim Cotter and Cheryl Dragonet, and the sibling of Mary Jo Cotter, Cierra Cotter and Chet Cotter. She was born on July 20th 1999 and shares a birthday with her youngest sibling, Cierra. August has gone to Susquehanna Community School for most of her life, except for two years where she attended Susquehanna Valley and then Canisteo-Greenwood. She’s always loved writing, drawing and filming or anything that involved bringing a story to life, more than anything else.

At Susquehanna Community School, Cotter has participated in the school’s plays and is currently Vice President of Art Club. Her favorite class subjects are english, art, biology or any kind of history. Math is most definitely her least favorite, it is not her forte. One of her favorite memories is laughing so hard about ridiculous things with all her friends at play practice.  One of her many favorite quotes is, “You need power only when you want to do something harmful, otherwise love is enough to get everything done.”- Charlie Chaplin, because love in itself is power but real love if used correctly cannot be harmful. Some advice she has to offer the lower classmen is; “Do not procrastinate, do your homework, do not hesitate to try things you might enjoy, especially school clubs and whatnot. You will regret not doing it sooner, I know I did when I hesitated to try out for the plays because I was scared. Don’t let fear keep you from doing things and it's ok if you try something you thought you’d like but it turns out you didn’t.” She says the most influential event in her life was leaving the home she had for ten years; it was terrifying but she learned a lot and grew up a lot.

For the future, Cotter does not currently have any definite plans but she is working on it. She does know that she loves storytelling in a lot of forms and art, and she most definitely would hope to work towards something that involves writing, film or art.
