Phyllis Anne Chaffee

Phyllis Anne Chaffee, 85, of Sayre, PA passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA.

She was born on June 16, 1931,the daughter of the late Lowell I. and Florence R. (Barnes) Buck and grew up in Starrucca, PA.

After obtaining a B.A. from Keuka College, NY in 1952, Phyllis started her career as a Religious Education teacher for the Tioga County (NY) Council of Churches.  Music was a central activity of her life. After marriage and with a growing family, she served as church organist, choir director and in other capacities at the Sayre Baptist Church for many years.  She also taught piano.  In addition, she worked as Church Secretary for the Waverly United Methodist Church for 27 years.  More recently, she was the organist at Waverly Presbyterian Church, from 1998 until 2010.

She was a member of the Valley Chorus from 1982 until her death. Through most of her adult life, she was an active member of the American Baptist Women in the Valley Area.  She enjoyed participation in the Susquehanna Valley Audubon Society and the Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Club as well as daily rituals involving crossword puzzles, reading, sewing, and knitting.

She was predeceased by her husband, Russell Chaffee in 2014, together with whom she travelled widely, having lived in Wyoming and Australia for some years.  Phyllis was a loving mom, grandma, and great-grandma who adored spending time with her family.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Alan and Susan Chaffee of Warrandyte, AU, Cynthia and John Green of Harrisburg, PA, Scott Chaffee of Sayre, PA; grandchildren, Tanya and Gustave Dahl of Oreana, IL, Erica and Christopher Ickes of Harrisburg, PA, Jared and Hannah Green of Dickson, TN, Emily and Brent Kimpton of Croydon, AU, Madeleine Chaffee of Richmond, AU; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Nathan, and Ethan Dahl, John Haskins, Cassidy Ickes, Hadley Green and Caleb and Violet Kimpton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Irving and Kathy Buck of Parker, CO, and Girdon and Cecile Buck of Skaneateles, NY; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services were held on at the Valley United Presbyterian Church, 622 ½ South Main Street, Athens, PA.

Burial will be in Ulster Cemetery, Ulster, PA.

Marilyn Munson

Heaven gained another special angel on September 29, 2016 when Marilyn Munson (Wodie), 63, beloved sister and aunt entered into eternal rest at home after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.

She was predeceased by her mother, Ann Munson and father, Robert Munson; brother-in-law Sean Piller, and great nephew, Tyler Gunn. She is survived by her brother, John (Peg) Munson; sisters, Bobbi Piller and Mary Pat (Peter) Freitag; nephews and nieces, Joe (Francine) Munson, Tom (Megan) Munson, Kate (Paul) McDaniels, Brittany (Zac) Reynolds, Brooke (Brendan) Keane, Kieran and Christian Piller, Maria (Jeff) Gunn, Elizabeth (Craig) Rumbaugh, Kristopher (Amy) Freitag; 16 great-nieces and nephews.

She was employed at the Honesdale Human Resource Center for 26 years and was awarded Employee of The Year in 2009, the staff and co-workers remembered her as gentle, easygoing, hardworking, dependable, pleasant, willing to help others, and having a good sense of humor; she referred to everyone as "bud".

Over the last 4 years, Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her dear friend, Germaine Grausgruber - we will be forever grateful for the love and care she, Karen, Michael, David, and Ryan have shown her.  We thank Bill and Mary Pat Palmer for the love and special friendship they have shared over the years. A special Thank You to Dr. B Patel at Barnes Kasson Hospital, the Nursing Staff on South Tower 3, as well as Dr. Carolyn Crispell, Dr. Chandra, Dr. Solis at Wilson Hospital, and Hospice of the Sacred Heart especially Helen Stinavage, Jennifer Toomey, and Sarah Mountain for the kind, compassionate care that Marilyn received.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016, 10am at St John's Church, Susquehanna, PA where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Father Cramer.

Burial will be in the St John's Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA.

Friends may call at Hennessey's Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave, Susquehanna, PA on Friday October 7, from 5-8pm.

Mary Joan Ragard

Mary Joan Ragard, 84, of Great Bend, PA was called home to be with the Lord on October 1, 2016 and reunited with her husband of 62 years, James E. Ragard in heaven.

Joan is survived by five children, John and Tami Ragard, Ellen and Rick Dorman, Cindy and Jim Gillespie, Tom and Maria Ragard, Bob and Kathy Ragard; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Barb Tamke and Joan Haines; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Marguerite O’Malley, and her sister, Patricia Carangelo.

She worked for the Press & Sun Bulletin and then became a state police dispatcher with the Gibson State Police for 27 years.  Joan belonged to the Binghamton Downtown Singers, the University Chorus in Binghamton, a member of the American Legion Post #357 Auxiliary, the V.F.W. Post #6223 Auxiliary, and a life long active member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Joan had many close friends and enjoyed coffee at Krayeski’s with the girls in tiaras.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who avoided cooking as much as she could.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Barnes-Kasson SNF, the doctors, staff, and nurses for their extraordinary care.  Also a special thanks to Alice and Maureen, Joan’s Uber drivers.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated, Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church and at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Inc., Hallstead, PA.

Interment will be made in St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA.  Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to Barnes-Kasson SNF, 2872 Turnpike Street, Susquehanna, PA 18847.

Antoinette Shraga

Antoinette Shraga, 81, of New Milford, Pa. passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna, Pa.

She was born in Passaic, NJ the daughter of the late Ralph and Clara Borzotta.

Antoinette was predeceased by her husband, John J. Shraga. She is survived by four daughters Carol and Bruce Selowentchich, Jeanne and Ron Conklin, Judy Peercy, Susan and Gerry Keene; two brothers, Bob and Maria Borzotta, Ralph and Janine Borzotta; sister, Gloria and Phillip Rivera, eight grandchildren Megan, Gina and Neil, Erin, Steven, Dayna, Adam and Tara, Zack, Morgan; several nieces and nephews and her cat Louie.

Antoinette grew up in Clifton, NJ, where she met and married her husband, John J. Shraga. After their retirement Antoinette and her husband moved to New Milford, PA. Antoinette then began to work at the Blue Ridge School District as a Lunch Server who “gave too much lunch”. The most important thing to Antoinette was her loving family, especially her grandchildren whom she loved spending time with. She will be dearly missed.

At Antoinette’s request there will be a private service held at the family’s convenience.
