The American Legion Gardner/Warner Post 154 of Montrose will be holding a coat drive from September 22 through October 14, 2016. The Coats for the Community program is where we collect lightly used, clean winter coats and distribute them to people in our communities who need them. We also collect blankets, snow pants, gloves, scarves, winter hats and other articles of clothing that will help keep someone a little bit warmer this winter.
Anyone who has any of these articles of clothing and would like to donate them to the American Legion’s Coat for the Community Program can drop them off at Pro Care Physical Care, Grow Avenue, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 276 Church St, or The American Legion Post 154, 14515 St. Rt. 3001, Montrose (South Montrose to Elk Lake Road). You can also call the American Legion at 570-278-1649 to arrange for a pick up. All donations will be greatly appreciated.
Through distribution sites at Christ Episcopal Church, Susquehanna, Christ Episcopal Church, Forest City, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, New Milford, Blue Ridge High School, New Milford, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Montrose and The American Legion the Program gave out over 1725 coats and other articles of clothing. We will be distributing coats through these sites from October through the end of November. We would like to add another site in the western part of the County. If anyone is interested please call the Legion at 570-278-1649 for information.
Last year we ran out of “kids coats”. This year we went out and purchased a number of “kids coats” to start the year out. Anyone who would like to make a financial donation can mail a check to: The American Legion Post 154, 14515 St. Rt. 3001, Montrose, Pa 18801. to help us with this cost. The Endless Mountains Children’s Choir will begin the Fall/Winter season on Thursday October 6, 2016 6:30PM to 8:00PM with a first rehearsal at the South Gibson United Methodist Church in South Gibson, PA. Any child is welcome. We are always hoping to have more children join our choir and our musical family. There is no tuition fee - no cost required to join the choir - choir robes are provided to the children. All funds are generated by generous community support from our fund raising events and from private and community donations.
The children have the opportunity to learn and perform various types of choral literature including classical music of many great composers; folk songs from many countries; gospel and sacred music; Latin chant; multicultural music from many countries (they have performed music in 13 foreign languages); music in American sign language; popular music; music from Broadway shows; The children are taught notation; rhythm; vocal technique - proper breath control; vocal placement; posture; vocal blend; vocal balance (singing with other voices); intonation; solfege; notation; rhythm; how to follow the conductor’s gestures (tempo, dynamics, expression).
The choir is a community choir which rehearses once a week on Thursdays 6:30PM to 8:00PM at the South Gibson United Methodist Church. This year we will perform an evening holiday performance at the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C. We are just awaiting our date and performance time.
We are always looking for new and challenging musical experiences that might be of interest to some to the children as well as new exciting performance experiences for the choir. The most important thing is sharing their love of music and enjoying singing. This is truly an amazing opportunity for your child to get involved in a beautiful musical experience. If your child loves to sing and loves music (most children do - nothing is more beautiful than to hear children sing) this is an experience your child should definitely not miss.
If your child would like to join the choir please email or call Dr. Christine Plonski Sezer, founder/artistic director. Email drcsezer@gmail.com or drcsezer@yahoo.com. Phone (570)756-2729.
