SEPTEMBER (all month long)

“LISTENING” WORSHIP: UMCC Greats Bend’s Alive Together worship service at 6:00-7:30pm for the entire month of September. A new series called “Listening” will cover topis of Difficulty of Listening, Listening to Others, God Listens to Us, Discernment. Contact the church for more information 570-879-4506.

SEPTEMBER 21

ELECTION OF OFFICERS: Wednesday, September 21st at 7pm in the Susquehanna Borough Building. Lanesboro Cemetery Association Meeting to elect new officers will be held. Urging all members and interested people to attend.

SEPTEMBER 22 - 24

FALL RUMMAGE AND BAKE SALE: Thursday September 22 from 4pm to 7pm at Franklin Forks UM Church off Rte 29 on Silver Lake Rd, 6 miles north of Montrose. Friday, September 23 from 9am to 1pm Bag Sale.

SEPTEMBER 23-24

RUMMAGE AND BAKE SALE: Friday, September 23 from 9am – 2pm and Saturday, September 24 from 9am – 1pm at the Franklin Hill Presbyterian Church half way on Franklin Hill Road between Lawsville Center on Rt 92 and Summersville on Rt 11. Lunch is served both day (homemade soup and sandwiches).

SEPTEMBER 24

Trees In Our Backyard: Saturday, September 24, 1pm at Salt Springs Park. Learn the basics of tree identification during a walk among the trees. We’ll share some educational craft ideas afterward. Kids and members free.

Roast Beef Supper: Saturday, September 24th starting with takeouts at 4:30pm and eat-ins at 5:00pm at the Thompson United Methodist Church, 586 Main St., Thompson. Children 5 and under are free, all are welcome.

SEPTEMBER 24-25

Raising Cane: Saturday September 24, 7:30pm and Sunday September 25 matinee 3pm at the Lakeville Community Hall, Rte 590, Lakeville. The Lakeside Players will be presenting “Raising Cane”, about a revolt at a senior center on the brink of closing. Call 570-226-6207 to make a reservation or buy ticket(s) at the door.

SEPTEMBER 25

Bees and Beekeeping: Sunday September 25, 1pm at Sale Springs Park. Jim Perkins will be presenting a discussion, demos, honey samples and a Q&A. Kids and members free.

Rummage Sale: Thursday, September 29 from 3:30pm – 5:30pm at the Lenox VFW (upstairs). Donations welcome. Please, no helmets, car seats or clothing. All proceeds benefit Mountain View Band, Chorus and Drama Association.

OCTOBER 1

Harvest Dinner: Saturday, October 1 from 3-7pm at the South Gibson United Methodist Church in South Gibson. Turkey is back on the menu! Roasted turkey with all the fixings, including homemade bread and pies are available to eat in or take out. Kids 5 and under eat for free. Call 570-396-5255 for more information.

Hawk Identification Workshop: Saturday, October 1, 10am at Salt Springs Park. Nancy Wottrich explains how you can identify soaring raptors by size, shape and patterns of movement., with an emphasis on those most likely to be seen locally. Kids and members free.

Star Party: Saturday, October 1. 7:30pm at Salt Springs Park. We’ll view the night sky from a field. Dress for the weather, and bring a telescope if you have one. Kids and members free.

OCTOBER 2

From Apples to Cider: Sunday, October 2, 2pm at Salt Springs Park. Bring apples (10lbs) and an empty jug and help run them through a cider press and you’ll go home with a jug full of fresh cider. Kids and members free.

OCTOBER 5

Free Stuffed Cabbage Lunch: Wednesday, October 5, from noon to 1:30pm at St. Martin of Tours, Jackson, on the corner of Rte 92 and 492. No take outs, reservations. OCTOBER 8

Chicken BBQ: Saturday, October 8, Noon until sold out, Gibson Grange Hall, Rte 92 Gelatt, PA. Half chicken, mac salad, coleslaw, baked beans, roll and cupcake. Reserve dinners recommended but not required. Call Nancy Shay at 570-756-2958 or Evelyn Cottrell at 570-727-2995. All are welcome.

Hand and Roast Beef Dinner: Saturday, October 8, starting at 4;30pm at the South Creek Lions Club located on Rte 14 in Gellatt. The menu includes “real” mashed potatoes, vegetables, baked beans, homemade pies and baked bread.

LUPO’S CHICKEN SPIEDIE SANDWICHES & SALADS: Susquehanna High School Football Confession Stand, 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. All proceeds go to SEA students for their Science trips to Costa Rica & Iceland next June.

Senior Center Menu - September 26 – 30

MONDAY: Penne with meatsauce, italian wedding soup, italian green beans, sorbet.

TUESDAY: Lemon pepper chicken, mashed potatoes, steamed garlic spinach, whole wheat roll, blushing pears.

WEDNESDAY: Oven fried chicken, roasted red potatoes, green beans, whole wheat roll, cherry gelatin.

THURSDAY: Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, cauliflower and peas, whole wheat roll, watermelon.

FRIDAY: Beans and franks, beef vegetable soup, dilled cucumber salad, crackers, cottage cheese with berries.

Formal Gala Is Planned

The Susquehanna County Recreation Center Project is holding its first formal fundraising event entitled “The SCRC Mystical Masquerade Ball” on October 29, 2016 at Heart Lake Lodge in Scott Township.


“Find a Mask and Wear it Well”

Proceeds from the event will be used to support the development and construction of a large, nonprofit sports center and meeting facility in Susquehanna County.   The vision of this project is to meet the wellness needs of Susquehanna County families. This will include the focus of fitness and social togetherness, as well as the promotion of healthy activities and behaviors in a state of the art and welcoming environment. 

Formal masquerade attire is encouraged the evening of the ball.  Cocktail hour begins at 6:00 p.m. and dinner, music, dancing and innovative auctioneering/fundraising will follow.  For more information or to purchase tickets please visit suscorec.org.

Jazz Concert Arts Center

The Self Discovery Wellness Arts Center, Montrose, Pa, is pleased to announce that Nancy and Spencer Reed will be performing at their annual Fall Concert on October 23rd, at 3PM

Unique brand of vocal and instrumental styling has been enjoyed by audiences for over 30 years. Their audiences are always treated to a warm, relaxed vibe, yet the music is swinging and intense. They also offer an unusual selection of rarely heard tunes, punctuated by unique treatments of jazz standards.
