The directors of the Harford Agricultural Society are proud to continue their scholarship program for college students who have been affiliated with the fair either through 4-H, working, or exhibiting at the fair. In addition to the one-page scholarship application, two letters of recommendation are required as well as an essay not to exceed two pages double-spaced which explains “ways in which I have participated in the Harford Fair and how winning the Harford Agricultural Society Scholarship Award will impact my education, my major, and my career goals.”

Funds for the scholarships are raised through the auction of the first and second place prize-winning baked goods exhibited at the fair, private donations, and special events at the fair. This year the baked goods will be auctioned on Monday, August 22nd in the Shade Pavilion on at 6:00 PM. This is a change from the past in order to accommodate more people to participate.
College students interested in applying for one of the scholarships can find all of the information including the application due September 1, 2016at www.HarfordFair.com or can pick up the information at the Harford Fair office on the fairgrounds. Scholarship winners selected from this year’s applications will be recognized at the Harford Fair Banquet in October, 2016.
The Friends of Susquehanna County Inc. recently presented the Volunteer Scholarship Award to a graduating senior in each of the six Susquehanna County Public School Districts.

Other recipients were: Abigail Roe, Blue Ridge School District; Alyssa Slickler, Elk Lake School District; Allison Arnold, Montrose School District; Dempsey Hollenbeck, Mountain View School District; and Nicole Sherman, Susquehanna Community School District.
Each recipient received a certificate and a check for $500. The Volunteer Scholarship Award is made possible through contributions from residents and businesses of Susquehanna County. The volunteer service that these young adults have developed will follow them throughout their life time.

Students at Misericordia University qualify for the dean's list with a 3.55 grade point average or higher. The following local students were named to the dean's list for the Spring 2016 semester: Samantha Allen, New Milford; Tyler Arnold, Springville; Robert Heft, Montrose; Micaela Rhone, Starrucca; Liana Stinson, Montrose.
Lackawanna College, Scranton, PA, announces that Seth Schmidt of Harford, PA, has earned an Associates Degree in Natural Gas Compression Technology, conferred during commencement ceremonies on May 21, 2016.
Seth, a 2012 graduate of Mountain View High School and Susquehanna County Career and Technical Center, and a 2013 graduate of Word of Life Bible Institute, achieved President’s List while attending Lackawanna College. Seth is employed as a Compressor Operator for Talisman Energy.
Seth is the son of Ken and Lisa Schmidt of Harford, PA.
