Fair To Present Concert Treat

Concert goers at this year’s Harford Fair are in for a real treat and a great evening of musical entertainment.  The Harford Agricultural Society is proud to announce that singer/songwriter Chris Janson who made headlines with his platinum-selling #1 song “Buy Me a Boat” and Old Dominion, one of the hottest breaking bands in country music whose single “Break Up With Him”, written by all five band members, will perform on Thursday, August 25th at 7:30 PM in the main arena for the 2016 Harford Fair.

With undeniable charisma, Janson brings a blue-collar, working-class boot-stomping hillbilly swagger to bear on every live performance.  He has the upmost respect for traditional country music and the legends that have performed on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry where he has logged more than 130 appearances; most of them resulting in standing ovations. He co-wrote Tim McGraw’s “Truck Yeah”, which is the highest chart debut of McGraw’s career.  In 2015 Janson opened for the likes of Toby Keith and Luke Bryan and joined Blake Shelton on tour in 2016.

The talented songwriter and self-taught musician says, “For me it’s about the music and connecting with people.  I love being on stage and singing about things I know.  As long as I’ve got a guitar and a fan to listen, I’ll be making music.  I write about what I know, my family, my truck, and the way I live.” He is extremely committed to family life and cites his wife, Kelly and their children as his biggest writing influences.

The five-member band Old Dominion will also rock the stage at this year’s Harford Fair. They are known for blending old-fashioned country charm, lyrical wit and rock n’roll grit into radio-friendly, hook-heavy pop nuggets.  They stand out as a group that formed authentically through the members’ shared love of music and songwriting. They paid their dues mile after mile; a band of brothers in the truest sense.  While undeniably country, their songs sparkle with clever lyrics, innovative instrumentation, genre-busting arrangements and finger-popping melodies.  The title of their album Meat and Candy alludes to their talented versatility.  It features a lot of sing-a-long, fun, “candy” songs along with their more serious side, too.  Thus the title says it all with  “meat” and “candy” songs.

Old Dominion was handpicked to open for Kenny Chesney on his summer’s blockbuster Big Revival Tour and are already pegged for his 2016 outing.  As they watched him backstage every night, they learned “the energy level he delivers is phenomenal.  There’s no lull.”  They have learned to model this after him.  The band appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live in February and the band is now nominated for two ACM Awards including Vocal Group of the year and New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year.

Tickets for this spectacular concert go on sale ON-LINE only at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 9th at www.harfordfair.com. There will be no free seating for this concert.

Dave enjoys all types and styles of photography, but lately has found him self gravitating to nature photos and high action sports portraits.  When necessary, he incorporates off camera high speed sync flashes in creativity light and freeze action.  You can see some of his work in the newly created Lifted to Life Gallery in the Trehab building on Public Avenue in Montrose.  It was through his inspiration that Hill Country Artists were asked to join him with their art to complete a variety of art work in the Gallery.

Dave will be doing a short photography workshop, sharing some of the process he utilizes to create his dynamically lit action sports portraits.  He will also be touching briefly on demystifying f-stops and shutter speeds.  Good photography is a necessary component in creating all types of art work in paintings.

QDMA’s Annual Tree Sale Set

The Susquehanna Branch of the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) is once again offering disease resistant Dunstan Chestnut trees for   sale. These trees produce edible nuts in their first 5 years for deer, wildlife and people.

Susquehanna Branch of QDMA Board of Director member and Chestnut Tree Sale coordinator Matt Sellers notes that,  “The trees we have received from Realtree Nurseries, for our past four sales, have been of excellent quality, with good roots. We try to improve the trees survivability by coating the tree roots with water gel that keeps and attracts moisture to the fine root hairs. The survivability of these trees has been excellent especially where the trees received water after planting and some form of year round tree protection.” Mr. Sellers further added that, “These trees have been planted in may areas of the northeastern Pennsylvania including the New Milford Highlands, Montrose, Springville, Nicholson, Stevens Point, Oakland Township, Little Meadows and mountainous areas of Wayne, Wyoming and Lackawanna Counties.

Dunstan Chestnuts combine the nut quality and tree form of the American Chestnut with the blight resistance of Chinese Chestnut. There has never been an instance of Dunstan Chestnuts dying from the chestnut blight at the RealTree facilities. Dunstan chestnut trees have been grown successfully from Maine and New York, west to Illinois and Wisconsin, and south to east Texas and Florida.

The Branch’s order deadline is April 9th. Contact Matt Sellers 570-533-1145; Denise Sellers 570-533-3693; or Bob Wagner 570-278-1011 ext. 108.
