Concealed Carry Seminar Scheduled

Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna), together with Rep. Karen Boback (R-Luzerne/Lackawanna/Wyoming), will hold another of the popular Concealed Carry Seminars on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 6-8 p.m., at the Hop Bottom Fire Company.

“Residents continue to express interest in these seminars, which include informative presentations about their rights as firearm owners, situations in which the Castle Doctrine may apply, and additional intricacies about our state’s gun laws,” Pickett said. “Each of the seminars we’ve held over the past couple of years has been very well attended, with great questions by our attendees.”

Guest speakers will include Susquehanna County Sheriff Lance Benedict and Susquehanna County District Attorney Jason Legg.

This seminar is designed to inform people about the various intricacies of our state’s laws regarding firearms. In addition, the presentation will include aspects of the Castle Doctrine law, which was passed a couple of years ago and allows residents to use self-defense without the fear of prosecution if they believe an intruder intends to cause them or their family serious harm in an attack.

Pickett is holding the event jointly with Boback to reach residents of Wyoming County as well.

The Hop Bottom Fire Company is located along South Center Street in Hop Bottom.

Because seats fill up quickly, residents must register in advance by calling Pickett’s office at 570-265-3124 or visiting her website at www.RepPickett.com.

To become certified as a Penn State Master Gardener, you must complete a minimum of 36 hours of training, score at least 80 percent on the final exam, and fulfill 50 hours of volunteer service in your first year of service.

A few of the topics you will learn are: Botany, Plant Propagation and Pathology, Soils, Entomology, Native Plants, IPM, Turfgrass, Vegetables, Plant ID and Diagnostics, Small Fruits, Herbaceous & Woody Plants, Pruning, Landscape Design, Weeds, and Indoor Plants.

Currently, there are 32 Master Gardeners in Susquehanna County delivering educational programs to the community through gardening classes, a helpline service and demonstration gardens. So, come and take part in the training and join this fun, educational group of gardeners.

The Penn State Master Gardener program is a statewide program that is administered at the county level. Recruitment, training, and volunteer service occur at the county level of Penn State Extension.
