Bernard “Bernie” Wray
Bernard “Bernie” Wray, age 82, of Rome, New York passed away peacefully August 1, 2015, with his family at his side.
He was born October 5, 1932, in Yonkers, New York, a son of the late Harry and Helen Ottenburg Wray, and was educated in Yonkers schools, graduated from SUNY Oswego with a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Arts Education, and a Master Degree in Special Education. Bernie was united in marriage to the former Joanne E. Leeney on December 16, 1967, in Nanuet, NY. He taught Industrial Arts at the Hawthorne Cedar Knolls School for special children in Westchester County, and in the Binghamton City School District, retiring after many years of service. He was a member of St. Paul’s Church, Palm Coast Art League, where he formerly served as president, and a member of the Board of Visitors for the American Camping Association. He earned the Eagle Scout Award in the Boy Scouts of America and served in the U.S. Army. He also was active in Kiwanis, in Palm Coast, Florida and at the Lake Delta Kiwanis chapter.
Bernie was a dedicated and compassionate teacher and counselor. He was a co-founder and director of the Rock Creek Farm, in Thompson, PA, from 1965 to 1991. The Rock Creek Farm was a summer residential camp dedicated to the counseling and caring of emotionally disturbed children.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Joanne; a daughter and son in law, Debra and George Gabriel of Sterling, VA; sons and daughters in law, David Wray of Thompson, PA, Benjamin Wray of NYC, C. Christopher and Melanie Fries of St. Louis, MO, and Michael and Tanna Fries of Westernville; a sister, Helen Wray Levin of NYC; a brother and sister in law, Kurt and Torg Wray of Maine; and grandchildren, Ashley Wray, Carrie, Jessica and Peter Gabriel, Christopher Fries and his spouse, Tina, Elizabeth Lea and her spouse, Ron, and Carol Fries; and great-grandchildren, Carter Fries, and Colin and Quentin Lea. He was predeceased by a brother, David Wray.
The funeral service was held at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome, New York.

Helen "Bernice" Benner
Helen "Bernice" Benner of Saxe, Virginia was born on May 25, 1920 to the late Hubert and Edna Phillips, in Newark, New Jersey. She had lived in Vernon, New Jersey and Thompson, Pennsylvania. She passed away on July 11, 2015 in Farmville, Virginia at the age of 95, with her son by her side.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William "Bill" Sr who passed away in 1991 and her sister, Elizabeth. Bernice is survived by her son, William "Bill" Benner, Jr. and his wife, Donna of Saxe, Virginia; grandson, Col. William "Bill" Benner III and his wife, Katherine stationed in the Netherlands; granddaughter, Michele Chastain and her husband, Dr. William "Eli" Chastain of Greenville, South Carolina four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lochlynn, Foster and Joshua.
Bernice retired from Hamburg (NJ) Elementary School where she taught first graders for thirty-three years. She was an active member of Eastern Star for many years. She taught Sunday School and was a member of the local United Methodist Church wherever she lived. She loved to garden, make crafts, read and visit with her family and friends.
A memorial service in Mrs. Benner's honor will be held at the Lebanon United Methodist Church, 11135 Craftons Gate Hwy, Drakes Branch, VA 23923 on August fifteenth at ten o'clock in the morning. Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall. Family and friends are invited.

Alberta J. Marvin
Alberta Marvin, 87 of Oakland, PA went to be with her Lord after passing away peacefully at home due to a brief illness. She was one of eight children born to the late Harley and Hazel Follette in Susquehanna, PA.
She was predeceased by her husband Earl Marvin, Sr. in 1994 after 48 years of marriage; a daughter Diane Marvin in 1978; a grandson Robert Testa Jr. in 1999; and a son-in-law Patrick Kelly in 1994.
Alberta is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Sandy Marvin, Jr.; three daughters and son-in-laws, Doreen and Art Moat, Barbara Kelly, and Carol and Bob Thatcher, Sr.; eleven grandchildren, Tim, Shannon, Steve, Andy, Ronnie, Rodger, Randy, Stephanie, Robert Jr., Brooke and Courtney; 19 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Sylvia Follette, Vestal, NY; sister, Arlene Follette, Johnson City, NY; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mom worked at Varsity Mfg. until she retired once; and went back to work in 1995. She loved buying lottery tickets, crocheting and sewing. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.
A Funeral Service was held Friday, August 7, 2015, at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, PA, with Rev. Jane Pykus officiating.
Interment will be in the North Jackson Cemetery, North Jackson, PA.

Michael (Mikey) Louis Vaccaro
Michael (Mikey) Louis Vaccaro, 79, of Susquehanna, PA passed away Tuesday, August 5th, 2015 peacefully at his home in Susquehanna.
Born in Susquehanna, PA on May 15, 1936, Mikey was the son of Salvatore and Angela (Angie) Vaccaro. Mikey graduated from Laurel Hill Academy and then served as a Clerk in the United States Army. Upon leaving the Army, he joined the D&H railroad as a trainman/brakeman. Mikey was a long time member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the American Legion organizations, as well as a member of the United Transportation Union. Mikey was one of the founding members of the Winding River Sportsman’s Club, an avid hunter and fisherman. He passed his love of hunting on to two of his grandsons who spent the last 5 years hunting deer with him every fall.
Mikey was predeceased by his father, Salvatore Vaccaro and his mother; Angela (Bucci) Vaccaro. Mikey is survived by his wife, Cecelia K. (Donnelly) Vaccaro, his sister, Lucy (Vaccaro) Jackson, Binghamton, NY and his three children, Mary K. (Vaccaro) Fisk and husband, Leo, Anthony Vaccaro and his wife, Angel, and Theresa (Vaccaro) Spehar and her husband, Richard and seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn Spehar, Jonathan Spehar, Nicholas Spehar, Courtney Vaccaro, Michael Vaccaro, Ashley Vaccaro and Paiton Vaccaro, who were a large part of his life, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Burial will be in the St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna.
