Elk Lake Seniors Create Thank You

Every year since 1998, Elk Lake school board member Chuck Place has donated a full field of his crops to Elk Lake’s Senior Class for their annual class fundraiser: The Senior Corn Sale. The money they raise selling corn in the fall is put towards many activities throughout the year, including the senior class trip and Elk Lake’s prom. This year the Class of 2015 has made something special in order to thank Mr. Place for his generosity, a sign in the shape of a cow that says “Place Farm” underneath.

Pictured (l-r) are: Megyn Stevens, Mr. Chuck Place, Natalie Newhart and Gianni Ferrari showing off the sign the seniors designed and created as a thank you gift.

Each year Mr. Place donates not only his crops, but also so much of his time, energy and resources to aid Elk Lake’s students. Mr. Place's continued devotion to Elk Lake's senior classes is admirable and very much worth a well thought out thanks.  Gianni Ferrari, Natalie Newhart, and Megyn Stevens (all from the Class of 2015) worked together to create this well deserved token of thanks. Natalie and Megyn pitched in to help with the design of the sign, while Gianni created and painted it down in the school’s shop. Gianni explained “the cow was made to remind him that we (the class of 2015) will remember and appreciate the fundraising that is helping us enjoy the things we want (class trip, prom, etc.).”

“The Class of 1998 was the first class to do the corn sale. I never thought it would still be going on this long,” Mr. Place said. “This year’s seniors were just little babies when this all started.”

Annual Career Day At Susky High

On May 7th, Susquehanna Community High School held their annual Career Day for students in grades 6th through 12th. Students had the opportunity to visit informally with a variety of careers that interested them. Some careers that were represented were the Natural Gas Industry, Military, Nursing, Engineering, and the Medical Field.

Several participants from our local community volunteered their time to meet with our students throughout the day. We realize that this day would not be possible without the support and enthusiasm of everyone involved. We look forward to giving our students this wonderful opportunity again next spring!
