Senior Center Menu, March 30 – April 2

Mon., March 30: Macaroni and Cheese, Stewed Tomatoes, Cauliflower and Red Peppers, WW Bread, Berry & Yogurt Parfait.

Tues., March 31: Meatloaf w/ Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Vegetable Medley, WW Roll, Cherry Crisp.

Wed., April 1: Stuffed Pepper, Roasted Red Potatoes, Broccoli & Cauliflower, Melba Toast, Cottage Cheese and Peaches.

Thurs., April 2: Herb Roasted Pork w/Gravy, Sauerkraut, Mashed Potatoes, WW Bread, Cherry Banana Gelatin.

Fri., April 3: Centers Closed Good Friday.

Holstein Club Sponsors Tour

The Susquehanna County Holstein Club is sponsoring a self-guided car tour March 28, 2015 to three outstanding dairy farms in western Susquehanna County. All three farms are within a few miles of each other near SR 858.

The agenda is as follows: 10:00 am - Scenery - View Farm, William Jones Jr and Sons – Bill and Sons are milking 285 cows in a parlor. The Jones’ have bred 22 EX cows in the last eight years, and are using an extensive IVF program working with females up to 2515 GTPI. There are currently 7 EX and about 50 VG cows on the farm.

11:15 am. – Hobo – Hill Farm - Robert Reyan and Family - Rob milks 100 cows in a tie stall barn with a gravity flow manure system. He feeds a TMR and has a 22,000 milk and 835 fat herd average. Rob recently had his first home bred Excellent.

12:30 pm. - VanderFeltz Holsteins and Jerseys – Joe VanderFeltz and Family – Joe has a dual breed herd with tremendous production. His 140 Holsteins average 35,847 lbs. of milk and 1,200 of fat and almost 1,100 of protein on three times a day milking. 

On his latest classification, the results were 26 EX, 60VG, 32GP and none lower with a 108.8 BAA. Joe has an extensive flush program with the Maggie Mae family. Maggie Mae has had 3 sons on the top 100 TPI list.  Another outstanding cow is Bolton Panda with a 70,000 record. His 135 head Jersey herd 20,000 of milk and a thousand of fat.
