HEADLINES: At the February 23rd meeting of the Mountain View School Board, some of the administrators were not in attendance. The resulting lack of reports, combined with a not quickly covered agenda and lack of public inquiry, contributed to a rather short and peaceful meeting. Dr. Michael Rettig of James Madison University, Virginia, was approved as a scheduling consultant for both schools at a fee of $7,200 total. A letter of agreement was also approved with WVIA for the next three school years, for approximately $1,000 each year, based on student enrollment. Mr. Stoddard noted that the latter contract addressed Mrs. Shea, and he felt that needed to be changed. Mr. Barhite suggested that the amount needed to be changed as well. Mr. Twining replied that the contract the board had before them wasn't the most recent version, and that the amount had already been changed in a more recent iteration of the contract. Once again Lorrie Detwiler proved herself a hero at Blue Ridge. Not only is she the School Board’s Secretary, but she helps to sustain the Board’s energy level when its meetings drag on. For the workshop on February 23rd that opened discussion of the District’s next budget, Ms. Detwiler brought hot homemade corn chowder soup, fresh homemade bread with a tub of real butter to slather thereon, and to top it all off, a scrumptious chocolate cake. Lorrie Detwiler deserves one of the Board’s achievement awards. This site is on a subscription-only basis. The Obituary and Classified pages have open access.
