Ag Day Expands to Agriculture
The 26th annual Susquehanna County Ag Day will be held on Friday, March 6th at Elk Lake High School, Dimock. The event will kick off at 10:00 a.m. with 75 plus ag vendors, educational workshops, health organizations, lunch, pie baking contest, pie auction, and delicious dairy products including milk, cheese, and ice cream. This event, which traditionally focused on dairy is expanding to include all enterprises in agriculture.

Lunch will be available to those interested at a fee. Lunch reservations are required by calling the Susquehanna County Extension office at 278-1158. Reservation deadline is Noon, Friday, February 27th. Individuals making reservations can pay at the door for their lunch.
Several classroom workshops will be offered at Ag Day. Starting at 10:00 am an information session on “Lyme Disease” will be led by Leah Lind, MPH, Pennsylvania Department of Health. At 10:30 am Penn State Livestock Extension Educator Dave Hartman will provide a classroom workshop on “Cover Crops for Beef Cattle Forage: Looking at the Options.” Also at 10:30 am a pesticide credit workshop will be offered by Penn State Extension Agronomy Educator Dave Messersmith entitled 2014 Growing Season Pest Wrap Up and Smartphone Apps for Pesticide Applicators; this workshop is worth 1 core and 1 category credit for pesticide credit.
The afternoon at Ag Day will also offer several classroom educational workshop opportunities all starting at 1:00 pm: Penn State Extension Educator Peter Wulfhorst will offer a workshop on Pond Water Management for the landowner. Ag Choice Farm Credit will offer a session on Personal Finance: Building a Strong Foundation presented by Sara Fenstermaker and Jim George. This workshop will help attendees understand their personal credit score and how it can impact one’s ability to get a loan. Penn State Agronomy Extension Educator Mark Madden will offer the afternoon pesticide educational workshop on “What’s New for Weed Control in 2015 and Drift Reduction Strategies.” This workshop is worth 1 category and 1 core pesticide credit.
The Penn State Master Gardeners and the Susquehanna County Farm Bureau will also offer all day information on Poison Prevention and Farm Safety for Kids. A special Poison Prevention Information Session will be offered at 11:00 am and again at 1:00 pm the Farm Safety Classroom.
The Susquehanna County 4-H will be looking for new members at Ag Day as well. And, be sure to make one last stop at the Dairy Promotion’s booth and pick-up some ice cream or create a fun cow craft with the Susquehanna County Dairy and State Alternate Dairy Princess Rachael Grosvenor and Susquehanna County Alternate Dairy Princess Rachel Johnson and their court.
Ag Day’s every popular Pie Contest and Auction will once again be held with all proceeds benefiting the Susquehanna County 4-H Dairy Program and Dairy Princess Promotion Program. Guidelines and registration for the 2015 Ag Day Pie Contest can be acquired by contacting the Extension office at 570-278-1158.
The Pie Auction will take place at 2:30 p.m., join the excitement as the pies are auctioned off by bidding and you will have a delicious pie to take home and will have supported youth of Susquehanna County.

Audition for Witness
Scranton, PA (February 2, 2015) - Diva Productions at The Olde Brick Theatre will host auditions for Witness on Sunday, February 15, 1-3 p.m., and Monday, February 16, 5-8 p.m., at the Olde Brick Theatre, 126 West Market Street, Scranton. Written and directed by Caleb-Matthew Williams, Witness tells the story of those who witnessed the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, and those charged with conspiracy in this tragic event. The show will run Wednesday through Sunday, April 15 to 19, the dates of which correspond with the 150th anniversary of this event. There are numerous roles for adult males and females to be filled. Holstein Club Plans Banquet
The Susquehanna County Holstein Club will hold its annual Banquet on Saturday, February 21st at the Springville Fire Company starting at 12:30 pm. Dairy producers and Holstein enthusiasts are invited to attend to enjoy dinner and listen to the international dairy judging experiences of Susquehanna County’s own Evan Castrogiovanni during his travels to Europe in 2014. The club will also recognize youth who have participated in PA Jr. Holstein activities and showed at the State Junior Dairy Show. Reservations are requested by calling the Penn State Extension Office at 570-278-1158. There is a fee.
