Area Agency On Aging Public Hearing

The Area Agency on Aging for the Counties of Bradford, Sullivan, Susquehanna and Tioga will conduct a public hearing at the First Presbyterian Church, 71 Church Street, Montrose, PA on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.
The purpose of the public hearing is to inform the public of proposed aging services and program initiatives and the additional funding and services available in fiscal year 2014/15. It is also an opportunity for individuals to offer feedback and ask questions about aging services.
The Area Agency on Aging offers a comprehensive array of services geared to helping older persons remain in their own homes and offering support to caregivers.

Montrose To Host Dining With Diabetes

Diabetes is a very serious and costly disease, but research has shown that those who learn to manage their blood glucose (sugar) levels eat healthy, and exercise regularly can lower their risk of complications and lead a healthier and more productive life.
The Dining With Diabetes program will be held on Tuesdays, October 7, 14, 21, 28, 2014 with a follow up session in January. Classes will be held at the Montrose Square Apartments from 1:30 PM-3:30 PM. The program is offered free of charge to those receiving or eligible to receive Medicare or Medicaid. The cost is $45 for others. Financial assistance is available for those who request it.
Dining with Diabetes is a program for adults with diabetes and their families. Participants will learn how to prepare meals that are healthy, simple, and taste good. Recipes will be sampled at each class. Participants will also learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning, and exercise as well as how to understand common, diabetes-related medical tests. Recipes and handouts will be given to each participant. In addition, at the first class participants will have their A1C test taken as well as Blood Pressure readings. Many informational books will be provided as well as exercise DVD’s, exercise bands, cookbook, pedometer, measuring tape, carry all bag, and nutritional placemat. Don’t miss this opportunity. Rail-Trail Meeting

The Rail-Trail Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, August 28th at the Lake Idlewild pavilion off SR 374. Dinner will be a covered dish, so bring a dish to share and your favorite beverage. There will be place settings and water provided. Dinner will start at 5:30 PM with the meeting at 6:30 PM. All are welcome. Discussed will be trail and bridge improvement plans and the upcoming D&H Distance Run on September 7th. Call the office for details or questions 570-679-9300.
