Joseph J. Marshall

Joseph J. Marshall, 80, of Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, passed away at home, on Friday, February 28, 2014.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Josephine “Joey” Marshall.

Joe is survived by two devoted daughters and sons-in-law; Stephanie and Steve D’Argenio, and Shelley and Tom Doyle, his friend and companion Linda Overfield, one sister and brother-in-law Loret and Russ Bengtson, three grandchildren Julia and Olivia Doyle and Sydney D’Argenio, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joe earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Bloomsburg University. He was employed as a Pennsylvania Game Warden and served as a well-respected teacher of history in local schools for 35 years. He built and owned Riverside Lanes in Oakland, PA. Joe was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener known for loving the outdoors and nature. He also enjoyed and was an aficionado of politics, policy and United States history. He spent his leisure time reading, cooking, discussing current events and special moments with his children and grandchildren. Joe was a loving father, husband, companion, friend and doting grandfather who will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 1:00pm at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, PA.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall/Sellitto PFDW Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Diane Neiper, 2626 Lincoln St., Camp Hill, PA 17011 or to Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, 1410 Penn Plaza, Suite 170, New York, NY 10122.

JAMES E. RAGARD

James E. Ragard, 81, of Great Bend, PA was called home to be with the Lord on March 4, 2014.  He is survived by his loving wife 62 years, Mary Joan. 

He is also survived by five children, John and Tami Ragard, Ellen and Rick Dorman, Cindy and Jim Gillespie, Tom and Maria Ragard, and Bob and Kathy Ragard; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister, Joan Haines; sister-in-law, Barb Tamke; numerous nieces and nephews; faithful companion, Casey.  He was predeceased by his brother, Richard and his parents, Nicholas and Ethel Ragard.

Jim served with the United States Army during the Korean War.  He was the owner of Reale’s Pizza for many years, past owner of Danceland with his sister, and 38 year employee with the Lackawanna Railroad.  Jim had won the Binghamton Press’s Bowling Tournament with Chris DeLucia.  He was a life member of both the American Legion Post #357 and the V.F.W. Post #6223.  Jim enjoyed his lottery and his ticket playing.  He was a faithful member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. 

The family would like to thank the staff of Barnes-Kasson Hospital and Dr. B. Patel for the care he received and also the staff of S.N.F. for making sure that Mom was with Dad daily. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Great Bend, PA, Saturday, March 8, 2014.  Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Inc., Hallstead, PA.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lourdes Oncology, 169 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, NY 13905, the V.F.W., the American Legion, or the Great Bend Hose Company No. 1.
