Blue Ridge Art Club Completes Project

Blue Ridge 5th Grade Art Club members recently finished building centerpieces for the fourth annual Blue Ribbon Gala on Saturday, February 15th. This fundraiser benefits the non-profit organization Marley's Mission, which provides free equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) to children who have suffered trauma.

Blue Ridge students built these amazing sculptures under the guidance of art teacher, Sarrah Dibble-Camburn in their after school club. The art club members used paper scrolling to build three dimensional horses. This project took a few weeks to complete using patience, paper, and glue. The students created eleven centerpieces for the event.

Excellent Finish For Elk Lake Forensics

The Elk Lake Forensics Team wrapped up its regular season in strong fashion at the Pennsbury Falcon Invitational held at Pennsbury HS in suburban Philadelphia on Jan 30 – Feb 1 by bringing home two trophies in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Sophomore Mika Smith and junior Haley Skinner advanced to the Octo-Final round in Varsity LD Debate and placed 16th and 13th respectively.

Skinner compiled a 4 win and 2 loss record in the preliminary rounds by defeating debaters from Lawrenceville, Broad Run, The Hill School, and Archbishop Carroll.
As a result of her record, she advanced to the Octo-Final round where she lost a unanimous decision to Amrit Ahluwalia from Council Rock North HS.
Smith compiled an identical preliminary round record as Skinner did by defeating debaters from Oakton, Catonsville, Lexington, and Broad Run HS.
She lost her Octo-Final round on a unanimous decision to Alex Fried from Abington Heights HS.
Junior Keeley Carney narrowly missed advancing to the Octo-Final round by compiling a 4-2 record and placing 17th in the field.
“This was a tremendous performance at a very tough varsity tournament. This shows how far these debaters have come this year,” commented EL Forensics Director Keith Brosious.
On February 22, the EL Forensics Team will travel to Abington Heights to compete at the Pennsylvania High School Speech League District 8 Championship. On the line will be a chance to qualify to the PHSSL State Championship Tournament at the end of March.

Geography Bee At Mountain View

Sochi is located near what sea? Mountain View students in grades 6, 7, and 8 enjoyed an afternoon of testing their geography skills in the Annual 2014 Geography Bee.

Students in third and fourth were selected by their homeroom teachers. Students may be selected as student of the month from four different areas. Those four areas are academic achievement, attendance, citizenship and most improved.
