The Susquehanna County Literacy Program is now home to the region’s only GED Testing Center that meets new standards of being entirely computer based. After months of investing in computer systems, software and training, the Literacy Program is proud to offer testing two times a month for those looking to get their high school equivalency diploma commonly known as the GED.
It was last year when the Pennsylvania Department of Education announced changes to the GED. It is now only available in a computer based format at specific testing centers. Paper exams are no longer offered. Education officials describe the new test as more rigorous and a better indicator of high school equivalency and college and career readiness.
The New Milford location is the only one in a four county area and will offer testing the second and fourth Wednesday and Thursday of each month. Those interested must register in advance.

Susquehanna County Literacy Program staff members and volunteers recently met with State Representative Sandra Major to demonstrate the new center. The Literacy Program has suffered severe cuts in funding, including all support from the state, but members continue to seek other funding options. They remain committed to their mission of improving the lives of residents in our rural county.
