Awesome Archers 4-H Club News

Another weekly meeting was held at the Naylor’s home for the Awesome Archers 4-H Club. The members and leaders talked about project books and posters that needed to be completed and turned into leaders by August 12 so club leaders and coaches can review them and take them to the Harford Fair 4-H Building.

After a short meeting several members took turns demonstrating games they made for everyone to enjoy. Each member is required to do a demonstration as part of their 4-H project. Bridget Bendock set up and explained how to play a game of Archery Bowling. Kassie Wilber made a game of colored target circles which shooters earned points for hitting. Malayna Fowler presented a game of TARGET, played the same as horse in basketball. Each person earns a letter if they miss the shape they were aiming at. Maverick Naylor made targets out of plastic bottles with different score points on them. The bottles were floated in the creek while archers tried to shoot at them with arrows. The highest points earned won the game.

More game demonstrations will be presented at the next meeting for members to enjoy.

Camp Brule A Success!

4-H members at Camp Brule

The 2013 4-H Camp Brule was held June 22 to June 26. This year’s theme was “Those Were The Days”. Saturday was based on the 90’s, Sunday was based on 80’s, Monday was the 70’s, and Tuesday day was based on the 60’s, but Tuesday evening was all about the good old 50’s. All the teams for this year’s camp were based upon TV shows from the past. They included The Muppets, I Love Lucy, Rescue Rangers, Tom and Jerry, Rugrats, The Munsters, and Scooby Doo.

Camp Brule this year (like all other years) was filled with tons of exciting activities. This year’s morning activities were as follows; The CAT (Counselor at Training) workshop, Boating and Canoeing, Outdoor Survivor, Fishing, Crafts and Culture, Up for the Challenge, Leather craft, My-Sci, Photography, Outdoor Cooking, Shooting Sports, Critters and Creeks, and Dissection Inspection. Each camper picked one and attended that activity from 10:15 to 11:45 on each of our three full days at camp. All activities were enjoyed by all who attended them. The afternoon activities were fun too. Some afternoon activities were Boating, Fishing, Lanyard Making, Line Dancing, Swimming, Shooting Sports and so much more! Some other things that campers at Camp Brule might enjoy making skits, attending a giant, exciting campfire each night, singing camp songs, attending/participating in a talent show, and going to a dance!

I really doubt that anyone has ever attended 4-H Camp Brule and not had loads of fun. I think that Camp Brule is a excellent way for 4-Hers to try new things. The theme for Camp Brule next year is “Luau”. I hope to see lots of new campers enjoying themselves at the 2014 4-H camp Brule.

DTE Energy Expands

Subsidiaries of DTE Energy Company and Southwestern Energy Company signed agreements to significantly expand their relationship centered on the Bluestone Pipeline and its in-field gathering system.

"We are pleased to expand upon our relationship with Southwestern Energy," said DTE Gas Storage and Pipeline President Pete Cianci. "Southwestern is a first-class producer with world-class natural gas reserves. This additional commitment to Bluestone affirms the high quality of the natural gas reserves in Susquehanna County, which recently became the highest producing county in Pennsylvania."

The agreement will increase Southwestern's firm transportation capacity on Bluestone. Additionally, the scope of DTE Energy's gathering activities on behalf of Southwestern are increasing in Susquehanna County.

The Bluestone Pipeline, which went into service late last year, is expected to reach its single direction capacity of approximately 300,000 Dth/day near the end of this year, well ahead of original projections. The 44.5 mile Bluestone Pipeline can transport up to 600,000 Dth/day combined to both the Millennium Pipeline in Broome County, N.Y. and the Tennessee Gas Pipeline in Susquehanna County, Pa. The Bluestone Pipeline can be easily expanded with the addition of compression.

Hallstead/Great Bend Lions Hold Tourney

The Hallstead/Great Bend Lions held their annual golf tournament on July 28, 2013 at the Golden Oaks Golf Course, Windsor, NY.

Pictured (l-r) is the 1st place team: Ron Knowles, Rick Knowles, Dennis Davidson, Bob Shrack.

This is one of our major fundraisers for the year. The Hallstead/Great Bend Lions help out with eye glasses and hearing aids; sponser the annual Hallstead Easter egg hunt and hold a Senior's Dinner during the holidays; just to mention a few of the things that we do throughout the year.

Pet Of The Week

Pictured is Colleen

We have a number of wonderful companion animals waiting for the right family to give them a chance at a better life. Colleen came in stray and she is a sweet, shy girl. She is an adult, housebroke and needs to feel the security of a loving home. She is a spaniel mix. We have lots of kittens available. Please spay and neuter your cats. There are so many abandoned and needing help. Adopters and foster homes for cats and kittens are too few. Call the shelter if you can help and for info on a neuter clinic for male cats.
