Hunting Licenses On Sale

Susquehanna County Treasurer, Cathy Benedict, announces beginning Pennsylvania hunting and furtaker licenses for the 2013-14 seasons are currently on sale in the county treasurer’s office. Fees are the same as last year. Licenses are printed on a yellow strip that can be folded into a 2.5-inch by 3.5-inch, tear-resistant document and placed into a license holder.

An antlerless license application is printed with every general license purchased. An application is also available on page 47 in the 2013-14 Hunting and Trapping Digest. Resident Applications may be received for the regular round of antlerless deer licenses beginning July 8. Nonresidents may apply beginning July 29. The first round of unsold antlerless licenses will begin for all hunters on Aug.5; second round will begin on Aug. 19. County treasurers may issue an antlerless deer license for any WMU, so long as the WMU’s allocation isn’t sold out.

Except for Wildlife Management Units (WMU) 2B, 5C and 5D, hunters only may apply for one license during each application period. Hunters applying for antlerless licenses in WMU 2B, 5C and 5D may apply for an unlimited number of antlerless deer licenses beginning on July 8, however, the limit of three per envelope remains in effect. Susquehanna County is WMU 3C.

The required pink envelopes for antlerless applications are available from any agent. These will be mailed directly to any county treasurer. One check or money order per envelope will be made out to “County Treasurer.” As always, do not neglect to circle the number of applications in the pink envelope. Be sure it is filled out properly and has the appropriate postage on both sections.

Please include your phone number so we may contact you in case of an error.

If you have any questions you may contact the Susquehanna County Treasurer’s office 570-278-4600 x130 or 132, where our expert staff will assist you.

Lakeside Players Host Free Theater Camp

Have you ever told your daughter she’s a drama queen? Does your son have a flair for telling jokes? Does your grandchild like to act out roles from his favorite storybooks? If so, here’s the perfect creative outlet: The Lakeside Players’ 9th annual free theater camp.

The camp is open to all children, ages 9 to 13, including those who’ve never set foot on a stage. It will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, from July 15 to 19 and July 22 to 26 at Lakeville Community Hall, Route 590, Lakeville (between the firehouse and the United Methodist Church).

At the end of camp, the children will show off what they’ve learned at a free performance for family and friends on Saturday, July 27, at 7 p.m. Every child will have a part in the original play, written especially for theater camp.

At camp, children will play theater games, rehearse scenes and learn the basics of acting on Lakeside’s friendly stage. Kids interested in working behind the scenes on lights, sound or costumes are welcome, too. There are no auditions, because Lakeside believes every child has a talent to show off.

Instructors for the camp are veteran Lakeside actresses Roxan Schwartz and Veronica Deisler, who have appeared in numerous Lakeside murder mysteries and stage plays. Ms. Schwartz is the managing director of The Lakeside Players. Ms. Deisler was previously a professional costumer and also taught drama to young people for many years in New Jersey.

Why hold a free camp? “It’s Lakeside’s gift to the community for all its support,” said Tony Schwartz, co-founder of the 14-year-old theater company.

Founded in 1999, The Lakeside Players is an award-winning community theater company specializing in original audience-participation murder mystery dinner shows and full-length comedies and dramas. The group performs in restaurants, country clubs, church halls and at two mainstage venues, Lakeville Community Hall and Grace Episcopal Parish House Hall, Honesdale.
