Harold J. Hartt, Susquehanna, passed away surrounded by family at Forest City Nursing Home on Saturday, June 15th. He was the husband of Janet Page Hartt for 63 years, the father of Jerome P. Hartt and wife Karen, and the loving grandfather of Victoria P. Hartt.

Born in Susquehanna, PA in March 1925, son of Bert C. and Amity Hartt, he was a member of the North Jackson Methodist Church. Before retirement, he was a former partner of Page’s Dairy and owner of Hartt Dairy. He was also a cattle dealer and former member of National, State, and County Holstein Associations. Active in civic associations, he was a former President of Stonebridge Lion’s Club, a member of Masonic Freedom Lodge #328, Vice President of the Susquehanna County Republican Party, and a former member of C Club.

Harold was also a People to People United States Agricultural Representative to Australia and China. A WWII Navy veteran, he landed at Normandy. He was an avid fisherman, and will be missed by his fishing buddies.

Also surviving is his brother, Paul Hartt and wife Mary of Virginia and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Hartt and sister-in-law, Nancy.

Evah Lou (Towner) Kapella 70 of Ravenna, Ohio passed away June 6, 2013 after a brief illness. She was born and raised in Lanesboro, PA. having graduated from Susquehanna Community High School. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Eva Kapella, in-laws Arthur and Bertha Towner, husband Robert Towner, brothers Frederick and Frank Prentice, and grandson, Nicholas Hand.

Evah is survived by Judson Towner, William Towner, daughter Mary (Dan) Hand and granddaughter Brittany Hand, as well as special cousin Judy Von Stein and her family, and many dear and close friends in PA and Ohio.

Evah Lou worked as a secretary in Binghamton, NY for several years, then she and her husband bought the local bowling alley in Oakland, PA. She was the promoter and with her personality, in no time at all, every family had someone signed up to bowl. Later she went to work at Pennstar Bank, Susquehanna, PA. After relocating to Ohio, she worked and retired from Ohio Reality Group. She enjoyed many activities in the community, such as working with the Bowling Associations, setting up tournaments, member of the First United Methodist Church, especially Century Club, member of Gill Chapter #5, Order of the Eastern Star and member of the Red Hatters.

She touched the lives of almost everyone she met, from the hundreds of children she taught how to bowl, to all the close friends she made wherever she worked and lived. Forever a positive person, she loved to have fun, entertain everyone, and travel wherever and whenever she wanted. Her bags are packed again and she is on the road again,, Heaven will have a new angel soon.

Stanford James Murphy Sr., 81, a resident of Lanesboro, Pennsylvania died Sunday May 26th at Barnes Kasson Skilled Nursing Facility Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. He was married to the late Nellie Jane DeWitt Murphy for 47 years. Nellie passed in June 2010.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Walter and Jane Nugent Murphy. Stan was a veteran of the Korean War. Apron returning from Korea he attended Stonehill and Boston College before working in the banking field. After meeting his wife Nellie Jane they settled on Cape Cod and worked in the restaurant business for over a decade. They relocated their family to Nellie's native state of Pennsylvania in 1974 where they became the proprietors of a business in Wayne County, The Orson Inn, which they owned for over 29 years.

Stan was an avid sports lover of all teams in Boston.

The family would like to express it's appreciation to the staff at Barnes Kasson Hospital, especially the SNF staff.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren, daughter Nellie, son Stanford Jr., granddaughter Shealyn, son Sean and wife Stacy, step-grandchildren Steven, Stephanie, Brianna and Rebecca, and son Myron.

He is preceded in death by his wife Nellie Jane, sister Jane Murphy, and brother Walter Murphy and parents.

A memorial Mass was held Monday June 17th at Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Susquehanna, PA.

Florence M. Stone, 91, of Thompson, PA, passed away peacefully at the Barnes Kasson Hospital on Monday, June 10, 2013.

She was born in Carbondale, PA on May 29, 1922, the daughter of the late Florence Gentile and John Nataline. She graduated from Ben Franklin High School in 1940.

Florence was predeceased by her husband of 41 years Louie Stone in 1988; her sisters Jessie Sarti, Julia Padelletti, Lena Nataline, and Mary Galoni; brothers Joseph and Angelo Nataline; grandson Jasmond Stone, and great grandson Lenton Brice Stone.

She is survived by her children Florence Ann and Don Franceski of Thompson, PA, Laurie and Paul Witiak, Brooksville, FL, John and Charlotte Stone, of Thompson, PA, Louie and Barbara Stone of Thompson, PA, and Joseph and Debra Stone of Thompson, PA; fifteen grandchildren Amy, Vivona, and Donald Franceski, Jill Soden, Bronson, Loren, Gafston and Steffin Stone, Abra Lynn Wiedow, Danielle Ainey, Deanna Stone, Brion and Brandon Stone, Bridgette McKennis, and Paul Witiak; fourteen great grandchildren with 2 more on the way; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Florence owned a restaurant in Thompson, PA, for several years. She became known as “Mama Stone” to many. When she retired she worked for “Care for People” until December of 2012. She was a very loving and caring person who will deeply missed by all of her family and friends.

A mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at 10 am, at the St. John’s Church in Susquehanna, PA, with Rev. David Cramer officiating.

Burial was held in the Ararat Cemetery, Ararat, PA.
