Gerald W. Bedford

Gerald W. Bedford, 68, of Grand Street Susquehanna passed away Monday April1, 2013 at home after an illness.

He was born the son of the late Sterling & Marion (Slocum) Bedford, Sr.

Gerald was predeceased by his daughter Connie Bedford Marx; brother Sterling (Cappy) Bedford; sister Cindy Bedford.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Linda ( Towner) Bedford; two daughter Holly Bedford; Amy & Art Barnes; sister Larene & Duane Barton; special aunt Ella Mae & Joe Stone; granddaughter his peanut Baily Madison Barnes (Pop’s Girl).

Gerald was a member of the United Methodist Church of Susquehanna. A veteran of the United States Army . He retired in 2000 from the Preston 151 Line Trucking in Scranton.

A funeral service was held on Thursday April 4th at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna with Rev. Keith Albee officiating.

Burial will be in the Starrucca Cemetery in Starrucca, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10am to Noon.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of The Scared Heart 207 Locust St. Montrose, Pa. 18801.

Marguerite Wilmarth Wellman Evans

Marguerite (Peg) Wilmarth Wellman Evans, 90, of Hallstead, PA, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2013 at Barnes-Kasson Skilled Nursing Facility. She was predeceased by her parents, Clayton and Martha Wilmarth; first husband, Leland A. Wellman, and second husband, Idris “Ed” Evans; daughter, Wanda Grimaldi; sister, Dorothy Whalen; brother, Wallace Wilmarth; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Melissa Wilmarth; brother-in-law, Fran Caden. She was also predeceased by her step grandson, Billy Evans, who was killed in 2005 while serving in Iraq.

Marguerite is survived by her five children and their spouses, Richard and Carol Wellman, Melbourne, FL, Fran and Donna Wellman, Harford, PA, Wayne and Kandy Wellman, Harford, PA, William and Gail Wellman, Great Bend, PA, Martha and David Randis, Binghamton, NY; step son, Billie Evans, Hallstead, PA; sisters and sister-in-law, Evelyn Caden, Doris (John) King, and Josephine Wilmarth; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Marguerite graduated from the New Milford Joint High School in 1940. She married her first husband Leland and lived in the Harford area until his death after 43 years of marriage. She lived in Florida with her second husband, Ed, until his death after 6 years of marriage. After Ed’s death, she returned to Susquehanna County and resided at Emerson Apartments, Hallstead, PA. Wherever Marguerite went, she was fondly greeted by friends. She spent her life doing good for others, travelling, cooking, and baking for her friends and family. She enjoyed Bingo, Scrabble, and many card and board games, as well as putting jigsaw puzzles together. She put her love into crocheting afghans for her children, grandchildren, and friends. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center in Great Bend, when she was able. Marguerite was a member of the United Methodist Community Church, Great Bend, PA.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Jerome (Jerry) Florance

Jerome (Jerry) Florance, formerly of Hallstead, PA passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 31, 2013 in Summerfield, Fl. He was predeceased by his parents, Jane and Jimmy Florance, his twin sister Jeannine Andrejack and her husband Bill.

He is survived by his loving companion of 27 years, Rosemary Freeman and her family Theresa & Lorraine SanFilippo, Julia, Stacy, Nathan, Alexi and Avery Pearson, sister Janet (Floyd) White, brother James (Barb) Florance, niece Wendy Connolly, nephews Dan White, Nick and David Anderjack, Aunt Evelyn Woolbaugh, Uncle Harry Kunsman, several cousins, many friends and his loving yorkies Charlie and Cherri.

Jerry’s love for song and dance will live in our hearts forever. At the request of the deceased there will be no service.

George Martin Knowles Jr.

George Martin Knowles Jr. passed away on April 2, 2013, with his daughter and granddaughters by his side. He was 84.

Mr. Knowles was born and raised in Mercerville, N.J. and lived there for most of his life. In his later years he resided in both Susquehanna, PA and Hudson, FL.

Mr. Knowles was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 25 years, Anne Kurpas Knowles and his sister, Jean Tindall.

He is survived by his two children, George III and Karen.

He also had five grandchildren, Kate, Ian, Gillian, Cody and was pre-deceased by his grandson, Mark Knowles.

Mr. Knowles is also survived by his second wife, Mary Lou, many friends including his “assistant mayor” Eddie, and his dog, Zoya.

Mr. Knowles was a proud WWII veteran. He served in the Navy on the USS Damato from April 1946 to October 1947.

He was a lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

At his request he will be cremated. Memorial services are being planned and more information will be available shortly in the local papers. Any questions please call (518) 593-4844.

Mr. Knowles was a wonderful husband, father and poppa. He will never be forgotten.

Judith K. Preston

Judith K. Preston of North Jackson, PA, age 74, passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 28, 2013.

Born in Philadelphia, she resided in Croydon before moving to Susquehanna in 1985. She was a member of the North Jackson United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and watching bull riding and NASCAR.

Judith was the daughter of the late Theodore and Hildred Gray and was preceded in death by her husband John (Jack) Preston, and her brother Theodore Gray.

She is survived by her sister Dorothy (Pat) McMillan; her children James McInnis III (Lisa), Thomas McInnis, and Wallace McInnis (Debra); her five stepsons; Joseph Preston (Nancy), John Preston (Barbara), David Preston (Kelly), Thomas Preston, and Edward Preston (Wendy); many grandchildren; great grandchildren; step-grandchildren, and step-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Jackson United Methodist Church, 976 Deer Ridge Road, Susquehanna, PA 18847.

Arden E. Scott

Arden E. Scott, 72, of Montrose, PA passed away, Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Barnes-Kasson Hospital, Susquehanna, PA. Born August 16, 1940 in Franklin Twp., PA, he was the son of the late Everett and Mildred [Wilber] Scott.

He was farm laborer for most of his life.

Arden was a member of the Stanfordville Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jane [VanGuilder] Scott of Montrose, PA, son, Thomas Scott of Montrose, PA, sister & brother-in-law, Lavonne & Robert Lewis of Montrose, PA, brothers & sister-in-law, Dale & Yvonne Scott of Warner Robins, GA, Kendall & Wendy Scott of Montrose, PA, Timothy & Amy Scott of Owego, NY, brother-in-law, Mark Luce of Montrose, PA, numerous nieces & nephews.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Brenda Luce.
