The Harford Fire Hall was transformed into a mini-raceway on Saturday, February 16th, 2013 when Cub Scout Pack 98 held its annual pinewood derby. A long-standing scouting tradition, the pinewood derby allows boys to work with their families to design and build a race car to race down an inclined track. Cars are built according to strict specifications, and after weigh-in are sealed in a box until race day. Pack 98 makes this a family friendly event by encouraging siblings and parents to design and enter cars as well.
The derby received wonderful support from the community this year and had a true raceway feel to it with decorations provided by Clifford Auto, trophies donated by Blue Ridge Motors and Scranton Toyota lending a real pace car to set up outside.
Overall winners were: first place Owen Cameron, second place Tanner Stout and third place Garrett Peters. Troop leaders Joe Milunic, Craig Stout, Rebecca Johnson, Roxi MacDonald, Bob MacDonald, Missy Boswell and Kim Eppley worked tirelessly to make this a wonderful, memorable event for everyone involved.
