HEADLINES: As Euclid finished dropping temperatures and more snow over the Susquehanna Borough, members of the public came to voice concerns about snow removal. And while tempers quickly rose on both sides, it was a firm guiding hand of Chair Reddon that restored order to the council chambers. Previous to the meetings start interviews were held for the open public works department positions, and in lieu of a fully manned department, Council members Barnes, Varsik, and Williams had taken to the streets and spent over 18 hours bringing them to a semblance of order. The public raised concerns about the manner in which the roads had been cleared, and the council replied with concerns about public returning snow to the roadways, parking in locations which choke clearing efforts, and using ATVs to clear driveways. Additionally it was reiterated that sidewalks are required to be clear within 24 of the storms subsidence or summonses in the amount of $25 will be issued in the name of public safety. Citizens come to County Commissioners meeting to keep a finger on the pulse of the county, much like the post office can keep some from attending. As Euclid stormed in from the west the intrepid handful huddled in the meeting room to watch the 17 point agenda go past like a blur. Item 7 was the item expected to garner the most attention but no sooner had commissioner Giangrieco moved, and commissioner Warren seconded had the budget passed with no public comment. The total millage was recorded at 10.83. The county conservation district board of directors would find commissioner Warren returning to a 1 year term, and Lillian Theophanis and Daniel Farnham to 3 year terms. All positions are volunteer for these appointments. Some discussion was had in regard to the “Lexis Nexis” renewal. Over the next 3 years the county will pay approximately $18,500 to grant access to the program in accordance with legal requirements. As the county has no choice but to provide the service the commissioners voted to accept the fees and move on. This site is on a subscription-only basis.
