Elk Lake Forensics Victorious In Scranton

For Elk Lake Forensics Team senior Austin Cohen, it was a different town and a different tournament. However, the result was still the same: another Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate title.

On November 10 at the prestigious James M. Langan Invitational at Scranton HS, Austin won his second consecutive tournament and upped his record to 9 wins and 1 loss on the year.

Cohen once again cruised through the preliminary rounds with a record of 3 wins, over debaters from Abington Heights and Unionville HS, and 1 loss, to Ed Jing from Unionville.

Cohen advanced to the Finals where he once again faced Jing. This time Cohen won a unanimous decision and the championship in Varsity LD Debate.

As a result of his victory, Elk Lake placed 5th in the Varsity Debate Sweepstakes competition.

In Novice LD Debate, sophomore Keeley Carney compiled a 3 win and one loss record and placed 6th overall in the field in her first competition of the season.

“Austin is having a very strong season so far. We are looking ahead to next weekend for some more challenges,” commented EL Forensics Director Keith Brosious.

This weekend, the EL Forensics Team will travel to Philadelphia to compete at the St. Joseph’s University Villiger Tournament against the top debaters in the northeastern part of the US.
