Calvin Claude Arthur
Calvin Claude Arthur “Cal”, 85, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, NY, after a fall at home early Sunday morning.
Cal is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Mae, of 65 years, his 7 children; Richard and Nancy Arthur, Canton, Ohio, Roger and Deborah Arthur, Spotsylvania, VA, Gerald Arthur and Tammy Palmer, Hallstead, PA, Dawn Roth, Susquehanna, PA, Joy and Kirk Upright, Moscow, PA, Diane and Charles Ripple, Orson, PA, Doug and Susan Arthur, Susquehanna, PA, also his life long friends Les and Sandy Schell and Jim and Shirley Beavan. Cal was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
He was retired from Sears & Roebuck Company in Binghamton and Vestal, NY. Cal loved auto racing and became an announcer in the mid 60’s for many years at the PennCan Speedway and other area race tracks.
He was a member of the Susquehanna United Methodist Church, The Freedom Lodge #328 F.& A.M. and a former member of the Erie Hose Fire Company all of Susquehanna.
Cal was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who know him.
A memorial service was held on Friday, November 16, 2012, at 11am at the Susquehanna United Methodist Church, Main St., Susquehanna, PA, with Rev. Leanne Campbell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susquehanna United Methodist Church or Stonebridge Lions Club, Susquehanna, PA.
Alice Carman
Alice Carman, 80, of Montrose, PA passed away, Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA. Born October 2, 1932 in Franklin Forks, PA, she was the daughter of the late Elwin and the late Julia [Rhinevault] Foster.
Alice was well known for her knitting and crafting skills. For many years, she was a volunteer for Meal on Wheels as well as a driver for the Area Agency on Aging.
Survivors include sons & daughters-in-law, James & Susan Considine of Montrose, PA, John & Vicki Considine of Hallstead, PA, grandsons, Michael & Matthew Considine, great grandson, Jackson Considine, sister, Joyce Sherwood of Elmira , NY, sister-in-law, Nancy Foster, Franklin Forks, PA, nieces & nephews and many longtime friends at the Montrose Square and also her beloved pet bird “gigi”.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Raymond Foster.
A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., Montrose, PA 18801. Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Franklin Forks United Methodist Church, PO Box 318, Montrose, PA 18801.
Frank J. Melillo
Frank J. Melillo, born December 17, 1953 passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the age of 58. Frank was preceded in death by his father, Frank J. Melillo, Sr., and his stepfather, Clarence Smith. Frank is survived by his wife, Deborah Melillo; mother, Waltraut Smith; three sisters, Peggy Wehr and husband, James, Mary Sisock and husband, Mark, Theresa Bracke and husband, Robert; nephew, Shawn Connolly; niece, Erin Chatterson.
Frank grew up in the Susquehanna area and lived much of his adult life in Syracuse, N.Y. He recently relocated with his wife to San Antonio, Texas. He was a graduate of Jamesville Dewitt High School and Columbia College in Syracuse, N.Y. He was a loving husband who enjoyed traveling and was an avid poker player.
A Celebration of Life with family and friends will take place at the Porter Loring Mortuary North Chapel in San Antonio, TX at a later date with a Rosary to be recited. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Fibromyalgia Association, http://www.fmaware.org/.
