Growing Greener Grant Restoring DuBois Creek

The Northern Susquehanna River Watershed Association and the Susquehanna County Conservation District have obtained a Growing Greener grant from PA Department of Environmental Protection. This grant will be used to design and construct a restoration project on a 1200’ section of DuBois Creek downstream from the junction of Steam Hollow Road and Liberty Park Road. The project includes gravel bar removal, stream bank stabilization and riparian buffer planting.

Survey crew preparing for DuBois Creek Assessment

DuBois Creek is a stream that has historically suffered greatly from flooding especially in 2006 and 2011. A previous Growing Greener grant identified sections of the stream that were areas to be restored. A copy of that assessment can be viewed on the Conservation District’s website: www.suscondistrict.org .

A new round of Growing Greener grant funding has opened and the Conservation District is looking for new sites for restoration. If you are a property owner of a site needing restoration please contact the District at 570-278-4600 ext 281 to discuss the possibility of the District applying for a grant.

News From Turnpike Terrace

Hello from Turnpike Terrace. Well our beautiful summer is coming to an end. We still have some pretty flowers here.

At one time we had a pharmacist from a drug store in Lenox to explain our prescriptions to us. He was very pleasant and helped us out a lot. We also had Marcella from the Area on Aging helping us out on different things. She came for two days. She was so helpful and so funny, such a nice lady.

We haven’t seen our decorator lately to get us all done here. It will be nice when it’s all done.

I told you my sister and niece were coming to visit and I didn’t know how Bob (my bird) would act. I let him out of his cage and he would dive bomb them all the time he was out. He also bit a finger, not a good thing to do to company. Maybe next time he will be better, I hope.

Well my friend, Marian Glover and I went to Hallstead for birdseed for Bob. Well long story short, I passed out in the store and got a ride in an ambulance to Montrose. I twisted my leg & my knee is swollen, but my replacement was ok, and they came to the conclusion that I was really dehydrated and that was why I passed out. Now I will limp around with my cane for a while. I was in the hospital for about 2 days total, or a little over. They are very nice over there also.

Marian G. from upstairs was in the hospital. I hope she is feeling better. And Rose Devere went to her granddaughter’s wedding over the weekend. Well that’s all for now. Take Care.
